K-12festivalactivitiesprogressthroughthreesuccessive levels: local,system,andstate.Entriesmustbeevaluated ateachlevelandreceive a superiorratinginorder to proceedtothenextlevel. Privateschoolsareresponsible forcontactingthepublicschoolsystem intheir

geographicareafor information onsystem orstateleveljudging.Homeschool students shouldcheckwithlocalK-12schoolstofindlocalschoolmedia festivalstoparticipatein.

Weknowthattoday’sstudentsliveinatechnology rich world.Teachersandparents respondto thisby findingwaystoengagestudentsindeep,rigorous,active learningthroughtechnology.

EligibilityofParticipants: Participants must bestudentsattendingapublic,private, home school,orparochial school in the stateof Georgia.

OriginalStudent Work:All entriesmustbeoriginal student work. Facultyorparent guidanceandinstruction areacceptable, but planning, production,and operationof equipment should bestudentwork.Thesignatureoftheteacher/sponsor or the GAIT/GLAmember onthe Official EntryForm mustcertifythat theentry istheworkof thestudent producers.Entriesmaybetheworkofonestudent, agroupof students, a class,orastudent organization.

Parentsofeachstudentproducershouldcompleteand signtheGSMF Media

Release Form in orderforthe entrytobe viewed ontheGSMF/GPB websites.

Audio Podcast:Apodcastisadigital audio program thatcanbedownloaded and playedona computerordigital audioplayer.A podcast canbe astand-aloneitemoroneofa series, though onlyone of theseriesshould besubmitted.Files should be inmp3ormp4.RSS filesarenot required.

LiveAction (includes Video Podcasts):Full motionproductionssuchasdramas, comedies, documentaries,commercials, newsshows,talk shows,interviews,instructional presentations,etc. These productionsgenerallywill have on-screentalentin theform of actors,instructors, hosts, and/ornarrators.Acomputermaybe usedfor title, creditsandoverlays,and maybeusedin the editingprocess.Such projectsare still “Live Action”.

Animation: An Animation includes drawn images, claymodels,and/orreal-lifemodels that areanimatedto createtheillusionofmovement.Ifapieceintegrateslive actionand animation, it fallsundertheanimationproductiontype.Famousexamplesofintegrated animation arethe1945GeneKellyfilm, Anchors Aweigh,and1988’sWho Framed Roger Rabbit.

Sequential Stills:

“Sequential Stills”isdefined asaseriesofstill imagesfromslides, photographs,still

video ordigital imagesrenderedintoa productionusingphotographic,electronicor computer technology,including Quicktime,PowerPoint,orsimilarcomputer programs.Text, music,video clips and/or narrationmaybeadded. Theorder that

thestillsareviewed in is fixedbytheproducer.ThesearesubmittedonCD,orDVD. a) Sequential StillsRegular – Aseriesofstill imagesfromslides, photographs,still

b) Sequential StillsClass Project–K-5Only

Thisisa specialform of Sequential Stills-Regular(seedescription above) where a teacherprovides moreguidancetothestudent(s). Purpose ofProduction

Instructional:Thepurposeofaninstructional pieceistoteach. Excellententries inthis categorygo beyond simplypresentingfacts.Examples include: tutorials, teachingtools, and interactive gameswith assessment.

Informational: Thepurposeofaninformational pieceis topresent afactual viewofa topicor issue, without the bias ofpersuasionoropinions.Informational piecesmay brieflycovermultipletopicsorchoosetofocus ononeortwo.Examples include:news programs, biographies,communitycalendars, and personal websites.

Documentary:Thepurposeofa documentary isto conveyanactualeventor topic beyond thescopeofatypical newsstory.It should reflect seriousresearchand present facts objectivelywithout fictional matter. (“InsideOur SchoolsAward”:Please seethe Special Honorssectionforadescription.)

GALILEO resources intheirprojects, GALILEO offers two awardsforthebestuseof GALILEO resources inaproject submittedtotheGeorgia Student Media Festival: group project (classroom teacher) and individual (student). In additiontothetitle, theawards would providea technology-oriented incentive such asavideo camcorder.
