EVENT INFORMATION

The Police National Judo Championships 2016 will be hosted by Dyfed Powys Policeand held at Brecon Leisure Centre, Penlan, Brecon, Powys, LD3 9SR on Saturday 24th September 2016.

VENUE OF CHAMPIONSHIPS & ACCOMMODATION

Brecon is an old market town nestled in the heart of the stunning Brecon Beacons national park, which is renowned for its breath-taking scenery.

Accommodation has been arranged nearby at the Castle of Brecon Hotel, Castle Square, Brecon, LD3 9DB. This is a 1st class venue that is attached to the historic remains of Brecon’s castle.

If entry numbers exceed the hotel capacity then an additional hotel in the town centre will be used. Rooms at the Castle Hotel will be on a first come first served basis.

Competitors should arrive no earlier than 1600 hours on Friday 23rd September 2016.

Public transport links to Brecon are limited however we will be offering minibus transfers from Abergavenny train station, Merhtyr Tydfil train station and Cardiff International Airport. Approximate transfer times are;

Merthyr Tydfil train station – 30 minutes

Abergavenny train station – 30 minutes

Cardiff International Airport – 90 minutes

Transfers will be charged at £5 per person for the train stations or £10 per person for the airport.

Transport will provided to and from the sports centre on day of the event, free of charge.

It is hoped that all Forces will give their support by encouraging as many competitors and guests as possible to attend the Championships and we encourage any supporters to also remain for the presentation dinner.

DIRECTIONS

The hotel is situated in the centre of Brecon town overlooking the river Usk and in the shadow of the Beacons. Brecon is situated approximately 45 minutes north of Cardiff on the A470 or 60 minutes west of Hereford.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation on a Bed and Breakfast basis is available either in double, twin or triple room.An evening meal is available on Saturday for the medals presentation.Sandwiches and frieswill be available on Friday evening at the hotel at an additional cost.

For those staying for the presentation evening, at the conclusion of the medal ceremony entertainment will also be provided in the hotel ballroom.

BREAKDOWN OF COSTS

Bed and Breakfast accommodation £45 per person per night

Presentation Dinner and entertainment£35 per person

Sandwiches and fries Friday evening £8.50 per person

Competition entry fee £25 per person

ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY

Competitors are entitled to participate provided they are members of affiliated clubs in accordance with the provisions of the Police Sport UK Constitution. All competitors must hold a current British Judo Association Licence (or associated organisations including AJA and BJC) entitling them to compete in BJA events. Competitors will not be allowed to compete if they cannot produce a licence at the weigh-in or on the day of the competition. There will be no facilities to purchase BJA licences on the day. This is in accordance with BJA and Police Sport UK rules.

Competitors may enter a maximum of two categories for which they are eligible. In addition, competitors may enter the Men’s Open, Veteran’s Open, Ladies Open and Kyu grade Open on the day of the championships. Kyu grade competitors who have won Gold in the PSUK Championship in each of the last two years will not be eligible to compete in the Kyu grade event and must enter the open event, veterans or masters (or combination of two).

Proof of age is required for Veterans (over 35 years) and Masters (over 45 years). Holders of Technical Dan grades are reminded that they must enter using their competitive grade.

The event will be run on a Pools/Knockout/Repéchage system in accordance with International Judo Federation Rules. In the event of dispute, the Tournament Director’s decision is final. The tournament is a Level 3 event and as such will be run with the relevant modified IJF rules.

Men’s Open Grade – u66, u73, u81, u90, u100, +100 kg

Ladies Open Grade – u63, u&0, u78, +78 kg

Men’s Veterans (over 35 years) – u81, u90, u100, +100 kg

Men’s Masters (over 45 years) – u90, +90 kg

Men’s Kyu Grade – u81, u90, u100, +100 kg

OPEN events with on the day entry for Men, Ladies, Veterans and Kyu Grades

SPECIAL NEEDS

Any special needs, dietary or otherwise, must be informed to the event organiser. Please complete the enclosed documentation detailing entrants, accommodation and presentation meal requirements on behalf of your competitors and supporters. Invitations will be forwarded to National Sporting Sectional Committee Members.

TROPHIES

It is requested that all trophies are returned to the organisers on booking in, fully engraved and in a clean condition on Friday 23rd September 2016. If unable to return on this date, please contact the organiser and make arrangements for the trophy to be returned.

WEIGH-IN

The weigh in for the event will take place between 18:00 and 20:30 hours on Friday 23rd September 2016 at The Castle of Brecon Hotel. An additional weigh-in on the Saturday morning will take place at the Sports Hall from 0830-0900 for those unable to attend on the Friday evening. Please advise on booking form if you intend on weighing in on Saturday morning.

COMPETITION DRAW

The pool sheets will be completed on the Saturday morning and will be seeded from the results of the previous year’s competition and then on grade.

JUDOGI

There will be no requirement to bring both white and blue Judogi for this event. A white JudogiMUST be brought, though the wearing of a blue kit will be allowed ONLY if you are called as the blue competitor. Please bring a blue and white belt for competing to assist in the smooth running of the event.
