Re:Autumn 2 2013: Week9 briefing

This week’s briefing includes the following:

-News, updates and reminders.

-Calendar of events for Autumn 2013 Weeks 9 and 10.

-Minutes of the SLT meeting of Monday 21st October 2013

News, Reminders and Updates:

Car parking:

From Monday 11th October we will create a little more car parking space by parking 4 or maybe 5 cars on the playground between the hall and the playing field. Only those who arrive earliest will be allowed to park here because we will have to close the gate when children start to arrive.

This arrangement and the siting of a container on this small playground mean that this area will not be available to the children for ball games until building work is completed in the Summer.

Parent/Teacher Interviews:

Parent/Teacher Interviews take place next week on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th November.

Letters and interview booking forms were sent to parents on Tuesday. On receipt of booking forms teachers should set up their interview schedule. When doing so please remember to take account of siblings in other classes and try to avoid giving parents appointments that are too far apart. Also remember to get appointment confirmations back to parents promptly and without delay.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding or arising from Parent/Teacher Interviews please do not hesitate to speak to your Base Leader, Sue or Rob.

Staffingfor Autumn 2 2013 and Spring 2014:

We are currently looking to appoint to the following vacancies for Spring term:

-Y3 teacher to cover Jemma’s maternity leave

-A new Reception teacher for Reception 1

-A part time teacher to work with New to English pupils and new arrivals into the country.

-2 temporary Teaching Assistants to cover maternity leave

You will be kept informed via the Briefing as appointments are made.

Christmas Lunch:

This year Christmas lunch will be served on Tuesday 17th December. So please do not organise class parties, concerts etc for that day.

Further details will follow through the Briefing.

Teacher Appraisal:

Target setting for the 2013/14 Teacher Appraisal cycle will be completed very soon and when it is all teachers and HLTAs will know their appraisal objectives.

Teachers and HLTAs must remember to review their progress against their objectives regularly and as the year unfolds. You should not forget to add any evidence such as lesson observations, progress data, CPD and anything else that can be used to demonstrate your success in achieving your objectives. This will be required when your Appraiser reviews your progress at the end and mid-way through the appraisal cycle. If you have any problems uploading evidence please seek help. Please don’t just leave it as the evidence you provide will form a key element in your evaluation.

Autumn termTuesday meetings:

Tuesday meetings for the second half of the Autumn 2013 term and following completion of Parent/Teacher Interviews are as follows:

Tuesday 19th November:Writing Process for Non-Fiction (Christine Crowther)

Tuesday 3rd December:Maths Passports and the new Maths National Curriculum.

(Claire P. and Rachel L.)

Tuesday 10th December:An introduction to the New National Curriculum

(Sue, Lisa and Rae)

Working Groups meet on 26th November and Tuesday 17th December.

Budget spending 2013/14:

As you are probably aware the financial year closes on 31st March. Long before this Sally has to account for all orders and outstanding bills and invoices before preparing her final budget statement. It follows that she requires all orders that are to be charged against subject, Base and department budgets to be placed the week before we close for the Christmas holiday on 20th December.

If you require any further advice or help with this please refer to Sally

Pupil Christmas Presents:

Please note that every class has been allocated £1 per child to purchase Christmas presents. Please present your receipts to Perminder for reimbursement when you have made your purchases and before the Christmas break.

Christmas Fayre:

Our Christmas Fayre will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 4th December. If you have any items that you could donate to the Tombola stall please bring them in and give them to Perminder. The organising committee, Mumtaz, Natasha and Perminder would also appreciate any items which would make suitable raffle prizes.

On the day of the Fayre, and not before, any contribution of cakes, buns, pakoras etc will be appreciated but please let Perminder know in advance.

Christmas Panto:

The Christmas Panto will be held on 11th December at 4 p.m.Please Note: THE HALL WILL BEUNAVAILABLE ALL THAT DAY.

If you are able to help in anyway, or for more details please see Haj.

  1. Minutes of the meeting held Tuesday 25th October 2013
The following was discussed at SMT.
-Progress and Status report
Sue shared the Progress and Status report she had devised to enable base leaders to summarise the status and progress of their bases as school grows this is becoming increasingly complex. The grid will make it easier to record the information, it is to be completed at the end of every term and discussed at SLT it will also be fed into the SEF. Sarah will hold a collective password protected grid to be populated as and when information passed to her throughout the term.
-Target setting policy
Once Sue has updated the policy it will then be taken to governor for ratification..
-Spring term staff meetings
At the away day we will discuss how to maintain a balance of base meetings and staff meetings.
-Spring term lesson studies
Lesson studies will be incorporated into Spring term, lesson openers will also be looked at.
-Forward planning
The main office, Sally, Geoff and James will be moving into a portacabin whilst the phase 2 building work takes place. The portacabin will arrive during half term, office moves will begin shortly after we return to school, the main office will be the last to move.
There will be swipe access to the entrance under the stairs. Anyone expecting visitors will be asked to greet them at reception. Staff will need sign in at the portacabin, it was suggested the signing in book should be in the staff room.
Rob asked SLT to pass any thoughts on to him.
Once the building work has been completed school will be rebranded, please start to think of any ideas this will be discussed further at the away day 22nd November 2013. / All
