Georgia JCI Senate Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
Meeting called to order by President Lori Palo at 3:45 p.m.
Chief of Staff – Ron Cowart
· Invocation -Ron called on Kay Buchanan to do invocation
· Pledge of Allegiance – Ron called on Rich Little to led us in the pledge
· Ron recognized guests
Secretary – Wendy Cowart
· August 24, 2014 meeting minutes - Wendy announced minutes from last meeting were done, and had copies available on table if anyone wanted a copy.
· Newsletter / ads – Wendy announced that newsletter went out first week of January, 30 emailed and 100 printed and mailed. Next deadline for articles will be April 11th and mailing will go out on April 30th.
Chaplains Report – Kay Buchanan
· Mandi Howard wasn’t in attendance so Kay Buchanan took care of Chaplain’s report. Report included prayers for the following people who had illnesses: Denise Bauer, Larry MacQuirter’s mother, Ed McCurly, and Cheryl McCurly. Also Mandi Howard’s father passed away recently, Lori Palo’s aunt passed away, and Louise Jordan, mother of CJ Jordan, passed away recently. Kay requested we keep all of these people in our prayers.
Treasurer – Connie Cromer
· Presidential Raffle – Connie collected $5 from members for the drawing to be done at end of meeting
· Dues Billing/Mentors – Connie confirmed that dues billing had been done and had passed around the Mentors form.
· Foundation Report – Ken Joyner had no report due to restraint of time
· Membership – Connie called on Johnny Swank. He encouraged all members to contact old senators not active and try to get them to come back and sign back up. Kay Buchanan announced that Mr. Massey, past Senator and guest speaker at Jaycee Luncheon, wants to be back on roll
Administrative Vice President – Brenda Swank
· Reverse Raffle – Brenda stated that tickets will go back to $10 each and the prize money will be $1,000.00. Tickets were available this weekend 3 for $25. Tickets going out in mail now. We need to buy or sell all.
· Return the Favor – Brenda called on Wendy to discuss due dates and how to submit. Deadline for next submissions to state is May 18th. National submission will be June 1st. JR won RTF for national 1st semester
· Website – Ken Joyner announced up and running.
· Scholarship Program – Kay says 11 submissions were turned in for scholarship. GA gets to send two to national submissions. Ken James scholar was presented to National and will become new scholarship and will go to region 4 recipient
· Freshman Senator/First Timers – Pat Rogers says no report at this time
Hospitality – Alex Willis
· Alex announced the hours of hospitality which are 9:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. in room #303.
COB – Larry MacQuirter
Peach Bash – Held in Macon in November and was a success
Winter Board Meeting – Was held in Cocoa Beach, FL on Jan. 9-12, 2014. Region 4 won RTF for National. Friendship award presented to Carol Pittman from NC for being an outstanding supporting spouse of senator. 7 Senators and 1 Jaycee were in attendance from Georgia.
Mini National – Pigeon Forge, Feb. 20-23, 2014
Calabash – april 24-26 myrtle beach
National Convention – Baltimore, Maryland, June 25-28, 2014 and Corp of Corps will be June 24.
The September board meeting will be in Gettysburg and the January board meeting will be in Tempe.
Unfinished Business
· 40th Anniversary 2014 –Alex Willis to go over details. He is taking shirt orders right now and also trying to nail down where event will be.
· National Board Meeting 2016 – Larry has gathered info from Savannah while Alex is looking in Atlanta, Macon & St. Simons. Will have proposal for approval at our May meeting. The National meeting we are looking at hosting will be in January 2016.
New Business
· May 2014 Meeting – Larry announced we will set date for our next board meeting once we confer with the Rebel Corps and find out when the Jaycee meeting will be. Date will be in May. Will determine 40 day letter of intent deadline.
· 2014-15 Officer Nominations – Larry opened the floor for announcements or nominations for the office of Secretary. There were none. Larry opened floor for announcements or nominations for the office of Treasurer. There were none. He then opened floor for announcements or nominations for the office of Administrative Vice President. There were none. Larry then opened the floor for announcements or nominations for the office of President – Ken Joyner nominated Connie Cromer. Pat Rogers 2nd the nomination for Connie. Connie gave short acceptance of nomination speech. Alex Willis announced he did submit letter of intent for office of President and will be running for election. Larry reminded everyone of the 40 day deadline to turn in any letters of intent. Any of the offices other than President can run from the floor if no letters of intent are submitted. Ken Joyner reminded membership that a letter of intent can also be submitted through yahoo group as long as it is 40 days prior.
Sergeant-At-Arms – Alex Willis
· Alex only fined Chief of staff in interest of time.
Announcements
· Connie collected $80 and drew 9 tickets for Presidential Raffle. – Winners were President Lori, Connie Cromer, J.R. Clark, Mike Ringel, Brenda Swank, Kay Buchanan, Bob Gotsch, Pat Rogers and Larry MacQuirter.
· Brenda Swank drew two tickets for reverse raffle – winners were Helene Mitchell & Don Styles
· April 26th is the date for the Rebel Corps benefit golf tournament which conflicts with the Senate’s Calabash – instead of our manpower we can sponsor holes. Holes are $100. President Lori entertained a motion for the Sentate to sponsor a hole - Larry MacQuirter moved and Johnny Swank seconded the motion – motioned passed.
Presidential Remarks
· President Lori gave her remarks – She encouraged us to recruit members to run for offices. We are having a great trimester so far and she wants us to keep working and finish the year strong.
· Denise Bauer was recognized as Staff Member of Trimester
· Wendy Cowart was recognized as Officer of the Trimester
