WHI SE RC Research Summit / -The SE RC Leadership Committee has decided not to hold the WHI SE RC Research Summit this year.
-Instead we plan toorganize 4-5 small face- to- face group meetings to address topics that have already gained attention and need focused work to help them move forward as ancillary studies, paper proposals, etc.
- At this time, one of those groups will focus on minority health disparities to help to understand the health issues in this cohort.
- Other groups will be address optimal weight within a cohort, mind- body positive aging, late life planning, and drivingamong older women.
The goal of the 1-day meeting is to apply the ideas presented at the May meeting of the Race and Minority SIG to questions that can be addressed by the WHI database on minority aging and health. Based on the available data, the importance of the questions and availability of methodologies we will be able to consider the overall strength of the WHI going forward with a program of research in minority health.
-We need to pull in experts in this area to help us move forward
-Gloria noted the group needs to look at where the participants spent their lives, is it in a segregated area? This would make a difference in the quality of health
-Sally noted all women were geocoded so we could look at this with the data we have
-Gloria noted the NW region has a meeting on the 31st and will bring up the discussion to see if anyone has expertise and is willing to help / -Folks interested in attending are: Gloria, Lorena, Giselle, Peggy, Milagros, Laura
-Sonya and Sally will work together to get this moving forward
-Folks outside WHI that may be of help are: Randi Foraker, Sherman James (Duke), and James Jackson (Michael Simon is a WHI Investigator and would be great if he could come)
Form 155 / -We need to work on coding of items as data is available now
-Look at what opportunities are out there and how to use the data in paper proposals
Form 156 / -Form 156 is due to go out in October 2013
