Khan Academy at Holy Sepulcher Catholic School
Holy Sepulcher Catholic School will be teaming with Khan Academy this year for our Math classes. Khan Academy is a non-profit with the mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. All of Khan Academy’s resources are available at no cost. Khan Academy offers lessons in Math, Science, Economics & Finance, Arts & Humanities, Computing, and Test Prep. Our school utilizes the Math content throughout all grade levels, and the Middle School teaching computer programming through Khan Academy. One of Khan Academy best features is that you, the parent, are one of your child’s coaches. You will be able to access all of the same tools that the teachers use to track your child’s progression and pinpoint areas of concern.
In addition to instructing students Mathematics this year through the use of the Math textbooks and supplemental material, teachers will integrate the Khan Academy into the teaching of Math. Khan Academy may be used as reinforcement, additional practice, or enrichment. The use of the Khan Academy was piloted last year and was very successful. Due to Khan Academy’s success in our school and user-friendly features for teachers and parents, including tracking of Math progress, we will not be participating in the First in Math program. Since Khan Academy is a free service, we now can utilize funds from First in Math for other educational programs.
As part of Holy Sepulcher’s continual improvements, we have created a “Holy Sepulcher Catholic School” coaches account on Khan Academy that all students will be a part of. All of our teachers and the principal will have access to this account and be able to manage the student’s progress in Math. As students transition from one grade level to another, we will be able to easily move the students from teacher to teacher on Khan Academy. Due to the strict security controls on student accounts, we need your help in setting up this process.
All of our students have Khan Academy Accounts and are currently being coached by last year’s teacher under their individual Khan Academy account. We need you to help us add Holy Sepulcher Catholic School as another coach for your child or children. The process will take about 20 minutes, but once you complete the set up, you will not have to repeat the process again! The steps below explain the procedure you need to follow. The procedure depends upon whether you set up your parent account and if you have already linked your account to your child’s account. If you have more than one child, you will have to repeat some parts. We need all parents to complete the set up procedure by Sunday, September 13.

If you are a 3rd grade parent, you will receive an email from the Holy Sepulcher Catholic School Khan Academy account inviting you to create you parent account. Please follow the directions and links within that email to complete the process
If you are an 8th grade parent, the 8th graders have already added Holy Sepulcher Catholic School as a coach. You may only need to add your parent account and link it to your student’s account.
If you are a parent of students in 4th through 7th grade, you need to follow the steps below. Please read sentences A., B., and C. to know what you have to complete. Detailed directions and screen shots are all within the procedure.
How to connect your child’s existing Khan Academy account to the new Holy Sepulcher Khan Academy account.
A. If you have created a parent account and connected your account to your children’s accounts, you need to complete step F only.
B. If you have created a parent account and not connected your account to your children’s accounts, you need to complete steps E and F.
C. If you have not created a parent account and not connected your account to your children’s accounts, you need to complete steps D, E, and F.
D. Creating a Khan Academy Khan parent account.
a. To create your parent account, go tokhanacademy.org.
b. Click "Parents, start here" and follow the instructions to create your account.
c. As a parent, you are also a coach for your student. Complete steps E and F to connect you and your teacher to your student’s account.
E. Connecting your Khan Academy parent account to your children’s account.
a. Click on “Home” within your Khan account.
b. Click your name at the top right and choose “Add Children”
c. Click “Add your child”.
d. Click “My child already has an account”.
e. Enter in your child’s Holy Sepulcher email account and click next.
f. An invitation will be sent to your child. You will need to log out of your Khan Academy Account and have your child log into their Khan Academy Account. Click on “Log out and have your child log in”.
g. Once your child has logged in, click on the Notification Bell and have your child accept you as a coach.
h. Your account is now connected to your child’s account. You will serve as one of his/her coaches, and you can view all of his/her progress!
F. Adding Holy Sepulcher School as a coach for your children.
a. Click your name at the top right and choose “Profile”
b. Choose “Coaches” from the list of links near the top of the page.
c. Enter your student’s class code into the Add a coach box, and click “Join the class”. See the list of class codes below the screen shot.
