Job Purpose:To bring vision, experience and energy in initiating and developing parish youth ministry,concentrating on the 11-17 age group, amongst the Catholic community of St. Marie.To have a passion to assist young people to seek God in their lives, to equip them to see things through a gospel lens and to be agents of his Kingdom not just for the benefit of the Church but the world in which they live. To have a heart to mentor young people and to be a positive Catholic role model, working with the secondary schools to develop links with the Parish.

Hours19 hours per week

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Organise after school/evening/weekend events for young people.
  • Provide a link to the Church for those young Catholics in our Parishes who are not attending Catholic schools.
  • Support our existing young people who attend Mass .
  • Assist with the confirmation programme.
  • Liaise with teaching staff and chaplains in our feeder schools and assist in the transition from primary to secondary.
  • Work closely with the Kenelm Youth Trust and work within their mission and vision for parish youth ministry in the Diocese.
  • To initiate and develop age appropriate holistic programmes, events, outings, recreational, spiritual and prayer activities for our young people. Establish a youth group for 11-14’s and the 14 – 18 years of age.
  • To develop a communication strategy for young people and leaders including; a website for youth ministry in the parish, a regular newsletter and establish and develop the appropriate use of social media for the purposes of parish youth ministry.
  • Collaborate closely with clergy from the parish and the surrounding deanery.
  • Manage a small youth ministry budget.
  • You will be accountable to a line manger submittting monthly time sheets.
  • Report to a steering groupand submit regular reports.
  • Develop a youth music group and regular youth mass and social.
  • Develop leadership skills amongst the young people in our parish through the Diocesan training programme, ‘VITAL’, and other opportunities.
  • Enable young people to play an active role in the life of the parish, promoting a commitment to Catholic values like mission, service and outreach to the poor.
  • Have an informed understanding of and commitment to the teaching of the Catholic Church and the life of the Catholic community.
  • Promote a safe environment for parish youth ministry through following the Safeguarding Policy and practice in the Archdiocese of Birmingham.
  • Create opportunities for pilgrimage, retreat and the participation of young people in catholic youth events locally, nationally and internationally.
  • Be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
