Chapter I - General Regulations
Article 1 These regulations are provided in accordance with the University Act and its enforcement rules as well as with the Degree Conferral Law and its enforcement rules with further reference to actual needs.
Chapter II - Requirement for Admission, Degree Management
Section I: Admission
Article 2 Those who have graduated from a public senior high-school or private senior high-school or institution of equal standing or who have an equivalent education level and have passed the University’s open-enrollment process are eligible to be admitted in the University’s undergraduate program at the first-year level.
Article 3 Those who have graduated from a public college or private college or institution of equal standing or who have an equivalent education level and have passed the University’s open-enrollment process are eligible to be admitted in the University’s undergraduate program at the third-year level.
Article 3.1 Those who have graduated from university or independent college that is approved buy the Ministry of Education and have received an undergraduate degree, and have passed the University’s open-enrollment process are eligible to be admitted in the University’s post undergraduate program.
Article 4 Those who have graduated from a publicuniversity of private university or foreign institution of equal standing that approved by the Ministry of Education with an undergraduate degree and have passed the University’s open-enrollment process are eligible to be admitted in the University’s graduate program.
Article 5 Those who have graduated from a publicuniversity of private university or foreign institution of equal standing that approved by the Ministry of Education with a graduate degreeand have passed the University’s open-enrollment process are eligible to be admitted in the University’s doctoral program. More regulations on applying doctoral program shall be provided in other documents.
Article 6 The University accepts transfer students who have passed the transfer exam contingent upon there being vacancies in the undergraduate program. However, in keeping with University regulations, no transfer student is permitted to enroll during their first or final year of undergraduate program. Admission guidelines in accordance with the regulations set forth in the Ministry of Education.
Article 7 International students shall apply for degree program according to the admission for international students. Relating regulations in in accordance with the regulations set forth in the Ministry of Education.
Article 8 All admissions except article 2 and 6 shall be proceeded by the admission regulations.
Article 9 Students should submit their certificate of education on the registration day. Late submission shall be approved by understandable reasons. However, students who fail to submit their certificate within deadline, their admission shall be cancelled.
Students who cheated on the open-enrollment examination or whose certificate hasbeen found as forged, borrowing, or alteration shall be disqualified their admission or granted for expulsion. Students who have been found out with the above-mentionedsituation after graduation need to submit their University certificate to the University and shall be disqualified their degree.
Article 10 Students who have disease or specific situation and are not able to register for the semester shall provide evidence before the registration. Students will register next school year with the approval by the University. Students who have received notification to report for militaryservice after being admitted to the University should submitmilitarycertificate for the registration of next school year.
Students, who are pregnant or given birth, shall apply for reserving admission before the registration day; the duration of reserving admission shall be adjust according to pregnancy, giving birth, or fostering child under 3-year-old.
In order to encourage students who graduated from industrial high school to work before studying at a university, students who are accepted in the 4-year undergraduate program shall submit working certificate before registration for reserving their admission. The duration of reserving admission can accept up to 2-year. Students shall keep the working certificate for the registration.
Section II: Degree Management
Article 11 The name and date of birth of students in the Student Information System must be accurate and as same as the information on their identity card. If there is any change on their identity card, they shall emend the information on the Student Information System.
Article 12 Academic Records of degreeprogram, graduation, registration, suspension, or leaving university in the Academic Affairs Office shall prevail if there is any inconsistency. Academic records shall be recorded permanently. Guidelines for student traveling or studying overseas and related records shall be provided in other documents.
Article 13 Current students or graduates who have changed their name or date of birth shall send official document issued by Household Registration Office to the Academic Affairs Office for renewing their personal information.
Article 14 Current students who take compulsory military service shall apply for suspension of studies with official documents.
Chapter III - Registration, CourseSelection and Credits
Section I: Registration
Article 15 Students shall pay tuition fee and register within registration period for each semester in accordance with the registration guidelines.
Article 16 Students who cannot meet the deadline of their registration due to sickness or specific circumstance shall apply for deferring of registration in which the longest duration for deferring is two-week. Students who fail to register before deadline without applying for deferring, their admission shall be disqualified. Current students who violate article 44 section I situation and do not apply for suspension of studies shall expelled. Current students who need to apply for personal leave during the registration period shall follow the student leave guidelines.
Section II: Course Selection and Credits
Article 17 Course selection must be made in accordance with the schedule of course requirements as set forth by the University and relevant undergraduate program and completed within the deadline announced each semester. Students who apply for course credit waiver shall follow the course credit waiver guideline of their department.
Students who take course at the NTU Triangle Alliance shall do their course selection according to the NTU Triangle Alliance guidelines.
Article 18 The maximum credit for undergraduate students is 25 per semester. The minimum credit for year 1-3 students is 16 per semester and for year 4 students is 9 per semester.
The maximum credit for administering professional development program students is 13 per semester and the minimum is 9 per semester.
Students who have obtained 3.38 or above Grade Point Average (GPA) shall apply for the approval of department chair for studying courses that are aimed for higher year students. Day students shall apply for one or two courses, while students in administering professional development program shall only apply for one course.
Year 4 students or students in administering professional development program who are not able to meet the minimum credit requirement due to specific circumstance shall seek for the approval of both department chair and class teacher. With the approval, students shall at least take one course for the semester.
Article 19 The credit for master and doctoral students each semester shall be governed by their department or graduate institute.
Master and doctoral students of each department or graduate institute shall seek for consultation from their instructor for the topic of their research paper within required period.
Article 20 Students shall not take two courses within the same period or else both courses will be canceled.
Students shall not take courses that are taken before and been given a pass or else the retaken courses will not be into consideration of their academic result.
Chapter IV -Duration of Studies, Credit for Graduation & Grading
Section I: Duration of Studies & Credit for Graduation
Article 21 The University has adopted an academic year credit system. Each academic year has two semesters: fall and winter semester. Summer courses will be provided if necessary. Guidelines for summer courses shall be provided in other documents.
Undergraduate day students, master students and doctoral students shall take day summer courses, while students in administering professional development program shall take night summer courses. However, students in administering professional development program shall take two day summer courses with the approval of their employer.
Article 22 Year 1 students are expected to have earned at least 136 credits within four years of their admission to the University, not including physical education courses.
Students who graduated at a foreign high school or a secondary school in Hong Kong/Macau shall apply for the admission as a year 1 undergraduate student. Besides the above-mentioned 136 credits, they should take an addition of 16 credits for graduation.
Students who have taken the required credits with four years of study and have been approved for studying overseas shall apply for deferring their study before the final exam of each semester. Students who are not able to take the required credits within their duration of studies shall also apply for deferring and their deferring period shall not be longer than two years.
Students who have disability card or have been classified as physically and mentally disabled by the city office shall apply for deferring their duration of studies according to their condition and needs, and deferring duration shall not be longer than four years.
Students who are pregnant, given birth or fostering child under 3-year-old shall apply for deferring their duration of studies.
Article 23 Students who enrolled as year 3 students, their duration of studies is two years. Students who are in administering professional development program, their duration of studies shall not be longer than two years. Year 3 students are expected to have earned at least 72 credits within four years of their admission to the University, not including physical education courses. Students who have taken the required credits with four years of study and have been approved for studying overseas shall apply for deferring their study before the final exam of each semester. Students who are not able to take the required credits within their duration of studies shall also apply for deferring and their deferring period shall not be longer than two years.
Students who have disability card or have been classified as physically and mentally disabled by the city office shall apply for deferring their duration of studies according to their condition and needs, and deferring duration shall not be longer than two years.
Students who are pregnant, given birth or fostering child under 3-year-old shall apply for deferring their duration of studies.
Article 23.1 Students who are in bachelor’s degree program, their duration of studies is from one year to two years. The credit for graduation is governed by individual program, and shall not be less than 48 credits. Students who are not able to take the required credits within their duration of studies shall also apply for deferring and their deferring period shall not be longer than two years.
Article 24 Students who take double major shall apply for deferring of study in accordance with the guideline for student seeking a double major.
Article 25 Current graduates who do not meet the credit of graduation and need to defer their study for winter semester shall apply for deferring and suspension in the fall semester.
Article 26 Graduate students who are in master program, their duration of studies is from one year to four years. Graduate students are expected to have earned at least 24 credits within their admission to the University, except graduate students in EMBA program (50 credits) and administering professional development EMBA program (45 credits). Students, who are in other master programs in school of management and scientific management graduate institute, are expected to take at least 36 credits within their duration of studies.
The above-mentioned credits do not include the credits for thesis.
Article 27 Graduate students who are in doctoral program, their duration of studies is from two years to seven years. Graduate students are expected to have earned at least 18 credits within their admission to the University. However, graduate students who are in school of management except for the department of industrial management (30 credits) are expected to have earned at least 24 credits.
The above-mentioned credits do not include the credits for thesis.
Article 28 Graduate students who are in administering professional development program or apply for their admission as teacher and are not able to finish the required credit or thesis shall apply for deferring and their deferring period shall not be longer than two years.
Article 29 The duration of studies does not include reserved admission, reserved degree, or suspension of studies.
Credits of teacher education do not include in the credit for graduation.
Section II: Grading
Article 30 Grading is divided into two parts: academic result and conduct. The grading method is based on a 100-point scale, with 100-point being the highest possible grade and 60-point being the lowest passing grade for undergraduate students. As for the graduate students, 100-point being the highest possible grade and 70-point being the lowest passing grade. Since 2011, the University has adopted the GPA grading method, with A+ being the highest possible grade and C- being the lowest passing grade (undergraduate) or B- being the lowest passing grade (graduate).
Regarding to matters of the conversion of 100-point to GPA, please refer to the guidelines for student academic result.
Academic result has adopted the method of pass or fail. Courses that have adopted this method need the approval of academic affairs meeting.
Students who have failed their course shall retake the course instead of take make-up examination.
Conduct is graded according to behaviors of students.
Article 31 The calculation of credit is one-hour lecture weekly as one credit per semester, two-hour or three-hour internship/experiment weekly as one credit per semester. The weekly course duration of each course is determined by individual school or department.
Article 32 Academic result is divided into four parts: regular test, pop quiz, midterm exam, and final exam.
New graduates shall prepare for pop quiz of the courses they take.
Article 33 Grade is determined by course teacher in accordance with the performance of students in regular test, pop quiz, midterm exam, and final exam. Final result will send to Academic Affairs Office for record.
Article 34 The methods for calculating semester grade are as follows:
- Calculation for semester grade
- The credit hour of the course multiplied by the grade obtained is the grade point.
- The sum of all grade points is the total grade points.
- Academic result is based on grade point dividingby 100-point scale. (Academic result is estimated to the second decimal point and the third decimal point is rounded up to second decimal point.)
- Calculation for summer course grade
- The credit hour of the course multiplied by the grade obtained is the grade point.
- The sum of all grade points is the total grade points.
- Calculation for graduation grade
- The sum of all semester and summer grade point is the graduation grade.
- The sum of all semester and summer credit is the graduation credit.
- Academic result for graduation is based on grade point dividing by 100-point scale. (Academic result is estimated to the second decimal point and the third decimal point is rounded up to second decimal point.)
Grade point has adopted pass or fail and it takes into the consideration of credit, in which it does not count as semester grade.
Semester grade includes courses that students failed.
