If so, you are one step closer to being Field Test ready! This packet will provide you with information by domain on the next steps to take as you approach your Field Test date(s).
Information Applicable to All Domains
Field test forms will be delivered through INSIGHT, a web-based online test engine. The domains and grades available to field test in 2014 are Reading (Grades 1-3), Writing (Grades 4-12), and Speaking (Grades 1-12). Each field test form is designed to be administered within a maximum of one hour. Below are the steps leading up to the Field Test. Please note that the Technology Coordinator, Test Coordinator, and Test Administrator(s) will also need to complete individual tasks listed on their respective responsibilities checklist accessible on the ASSETS website: http://assets.wceruw.org/implementation/fieldtest.aspx#webinar

· This document will help you specify student tiers to enter into eDIRECT when setting up test sessions.

· If you have concerns about collecting tier information prior to shipping operational test materials back to MetriTech, please contact Paula White: and we can work with you to retrieve student tier information to set up your Field Test sessions.
As Soon As Possible / Fill out the School Field Test Schedule table in this packet and submit to Paula White: . / · This will ensure that you receive the support you may need before the Field Test, and the Student Response Booklets for the Writing domain before your scheduled Field Test date.
· Based on this scheduled date, you can take the steps listed below.
As Soon As Possible / Ensure that you have enough headsets (Speaking domain) or headphones/headsets (Reading and Writing domains) to conduct the Field Test. / · Please refer to pages 6 - 8 of this packet to read in more detail about the headsets or headphones requirements for the Reading, Writing, and Speaking domains. 3 weeks prior to testing / Ensure that the Tech Coordinator, Test Coordinator, and Test Administrator all have eDIRECT log-in accounts and have the appropriate permissions assigned. / · eDIRECT site (Online Testing Management Portal): https://wida.drcedirect.com/
· The site contains important Field Test preparation read-ahead materials.
· The site is where you set up testing sessions (Once your state’s student information is loaded.) Check with DRC Customer Service: to see if your state’s student information is loaded.
· The site is where you manage all student Test Session Ticket usernames and passwords.
3 weeks prior to testing / Set up test sessions in eDIRECT. Work with Test Administrators to verify, demographics and Accommodations information for participating students. / · eDIRECT site (Online Testing Management Portal): https://wida.drcedirect.com/

3 weeks prior to testing / Verify that district/school firewall and filters on the computer network are configured correctly to allow communication with the online servers, and that the correct URLs and IP addresses are whitelisted. / · Reference the Field Test Technology Requirements page of the ASSETS website: http://assetsproject.org/implementation/fieldtest.aspx#requirements
At least 2 weeks prior to testing / Work with the Technology Coordinator to confirm:
· proper network configuration
· installation of INSIGHT test engine on computers

· You must use your eDIRECT username and password to access the system.
· Reference the eDIRECT User Guide for detailed instructions on how to accomplish this task.
At least 2 weeks prior to testing / Establish a process for Test Administrators and students to access the online Video Tutorials and OTTs before testing. / · The Video Tutorials are non-interactive videos that walk students through animated test directions.
· The Online Tools Training (OTT) provides interactive test directions and practice items that allow students to experience and practice the online assessment format.
· Reference the INSIGHT Technology User Guide for more information on how to access these training resources.
At least 1 week prior to testing / Develop a testing schedule for each computer lab. / · Students will need to use a computer to test in Reading, Writing, and Speaking, except for Writing Grades 1-3 which will be administered on paper.
· If necessary, be sure that the computer lab has been reserved in advance.
At least 1 week prior to testing / Establish and communicate a process for printing Student Rosters and Test Session Tickets. / · Work with the Test Administrator.
At least 1 week prior to testing / Ensure adherence to all test security policies for online administration and handling of all printed test materials. / · Test materials must be kept secure in a locked cabinet when they are not in use during testing.
· Abide by the regulations in force in states and school districts to safeguard the integrity of the materials.
· Make sure you read the Terms of Use agreement upon first logon to eDIRECT.

School Field Test Schedule
If you have not yet provided Field Test schedules for your participating schools, please provide information on the Field Test Date(s). If your school(s) will be field testing in the Writing Domain, please also provide the number of students per tier, name of the contact person who should receive the Student Response Booklets. If you can only provide an estimated Field Test date, please provide the earliest approximation so we can deliver Writing Student Response Booklets in a timely manner.

Information Applicable to Reading Domain Grades 1-3:
Reading Field Test Summary:
· Each Reading Field Test form includes a set of practice items and are comprised of eight to ten folders of items for a total of 24-30 selected-response questions
· Reading passages and prompts will be viewed onscreen
· Students or administrators will submit responses into the online test engine for scoring at a central location
Additional Steps Needed to Field Test in Reading:
· Technology requirement: All students will need headphones or earbuds for the Reading Field Tests. Students will listen to the practice items at the beginning of the test forms and will listen to recorded instructions throughout the testing experience. Students are allowed to bring their own headphones or earbuds.
· Ensure that the Test Administrator and students watch the following Video Tutorial and OTT:
o Reading Grades 1-3
· Refer to Section 4: Reading in the Online Test Administration Manual (O-TAM):
o Test Administrators need to have read through the Test Administrator’s Script before administering the Field Test.
Information Applicable to Writing Domain Grades 4-12:
Writing Field Test Summary:
· Each Writing Field Test form includes a set of practice items comprised of one longer to two shorter writing tasks. Only students in Tiers B and C will be given the longer, extended writing task.
· Integrated audio and visual prompts will be provided onscreen
· Modeled responses will be provided for prompts as appropriate
· Paper or Keyboard Response Modes:
o Grades 4-5, All Tiers: Paper response only for the Field Test (test questions online)
o Grades 6-12, Tier A: Paper response only for the Field Test (test questions online)
o Grades 6-12, Tier B-C: Keyboard by default (student can request to handwrite by paper)
Additional Steps Needed to Field Test in Writing:
· Technology requirement: All students will need headphones or earbuds for the Writing Field Tests. Students will listen to the practice items at the beginning of the test forms and will listen to recorded instructions throughout the testing experience. Students are allowed to bring their own headphones or earbuds.
· Ensure that the Test Administrator and students watch the following Video Tutorials and OTTs:
o Writing: Writing on Paper
o Writing: Typing on Computer
· Refer to Section 5: Writing in the Online Test Administration Manual (O-TAM):
o Test Administrators need to have read through the Test Administrator’s Script before administering the Field Test.
o Each classroom participating in the Writing Field Test for grades 4–5 and 6–12 Tier A will receive Student Response Booklets from MetriTech.
§ Provide sharpened number two pencils for the students to write their responses in the Student Response Booklet.
· Because in grades 6–12 Tier B/C students will enter their responses by typing on the computer, the classes participating in this test will NOT receive any test materials from MetriTech, unless specified in the Field Test Schedule table in this packet.
· No order process will be involved to receive booklets. The booklets will be sent to you automatically based on the test date and recipient information you provide.
Information Applicable to Speaking Domain Grades 1-12:
Speaking Field Test Summary:
· Each Speaking Field Test form includes a set of practice items and are comprised of five folders for a total of 10 tasks
· Students are also prompted to complete an Audio Check to ensure that the headset equipment is working properly
· Integrated audio and visual prompts will be provided onscreen
· Students will speak after being prompted by the Virtual Test Administrator
· Modeled responses will be provided to demonstrate expected responses
· Student speech samples will be computer-recorded into the online test engine for offsite rating and scoring at a central location
Additional Steps Needed to Field Test in Speaking:
· Technology Requirements: Students taking the Speaking Field Test will need headsets (headphones with microphones or a microphone plug-in device) to listen and record their responses. If you do not have a sufficient number of headsets, please contact us immediately. Keep in mind that the headsets are re-useable (i.e., only one headset is needed per student per session, and these may be reused for each session).
· Ensure that the Test Administrator and students watch the following Video Tutorials and OTTs:
o Speaking Grades 1−5
o Speaking Grades 6−12
