Cleveland Track Line Not a Problemwith TCC-750 Footprint
Lexington, KY – October 9, 2017 – The Ohio Department of Transportation awarded The Great Lakes Construction Co., based in Hinckley, Ohio, a contract worth nearly $3.5 million to build 8,000 linear feet of highway traffic noise barriersbetween Tiedeman Road and Ridge Road in Brooklyn, Ohio. In order to place 329 precast concrete posts and 660 concrete sound barrier panels,The Great Lakes Construction Co. rented a Link-Belt75-ton (70-mt) TCC-750 telescopic crawler crane from Columbus Equipment of Columbus, Ohio.
The sound barrier project is one of twelve different Ohio Department of Transportation projects for Cuyahoga Countymandated to have minimal impacton traffic. The TCC-750’sagility off the shoulder of the road (size and mobility) allowed construction to proceed without significantly impeding traffic.“The crane’s footprint keptconstruction work out of traffic and the interstate lanes open,” says John Schrieber, project superintendent for The Great Lakes Construction Co.
A rig drilled holes for the foundation of the 329 posts. Then the TCC-750 lifted into place rebar cages and anchor bolts before pouring concretefor the foundations. The foundations were anywhere from 8 – 15 ft. (2.4 – 4.5 m) deep and 30 in. (76 cm) in diameter. Once the foundations were built, the TCC-750 lifted precast concrete posts weighing up to 1,500 lbs. (680 kg) from I-480 roadside to their final position 25 ft. (7.6 m) above grade.
Once the posts were placed, the TCC-750 slid into place 660 14,000 lb. (6 350 kg) concrete sound barrier panels. For 1,600 ft. (487 m) of drainage, the TCC-750 dropped #8 stone with a concrete bucket to backfill behind the wall.
“It has been a great machine for us. It handles our panels very well, and we are impressed by it. Ithas worked fantastically,” said Schrieber.
