Introduction and Objectives

India lives in its 6.4 Lakhs villages spread over a geographical area of 329 Million Hectare. Making Indian villages self-sufficient and developed in all respect has been the dream of development planners including the national leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and their successors. The First Five Year Plan launched in 1950-51 had a major focus on infrastructure and community development. From the First Five Year Plan to the Twelfth Five Year Plan, India has traveled a long journey and experienced many successstories in the field of agriculture, infrastructure and rural development. Although India has marked significant development in Agriculture, Infrastructure, Industrial growth, Health and Education sectors but still one quarter of its population lives below poverty line and they lack even basic facilities like food, water, health, education and sanitation. Our Development Planners are envisioning for making the country a developed nation by the end of the Thirteenth Five Year Plan, 2022. In order to achieve such targets government of India has intiated a number of schemes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Skill Development Mission, Digital India and other schemes for the upliftment of rural poor. The transfer of technologies and skills have been the crucial inputs for the sustainable rural development. With this in background a National Seminar is planned to bring development planners, teachers, civil servants, scientists, social activists and environmentalists at one platform to debate on various issues of Sustainable Rural Development.
