October 20, 2016
Dear Parents,
Our Jesus Time was different this week. We continued our unit on Dr. Martin Luther in preparation for our special service on October 31, with a guest speaker, an impersonator of Katie Luther, Martin’s wife. All are welcome to attend the special service at 9 AM that day. WEAR RED, the color of the Reformation. We ALSO began our booklet on “God Made Pumpkins” by Liz Curtis Higgs. This book teaches about the growth of pumpkins in the patch. Near the end of the story, the farmer chooses a pumpkin to carve into a Jack-O-Lantern. We learned that a PARABLE is a story that Jesus told when He still lived here on earth, that would teach a lesson. The lesson that this story taught was to LET OUR LIGHT SHINE. Treat others with happiness and nice ways. Let them see Jesus’ love in you. We’re trying to put this lesson “into action”
We worked with the letter “Hh” this week. Ask your child what the nick name of this letter is. Have them show you why. We met Happy Hippo and Harvey Hare as our puppets to help us with the sound. We worked with the beginning letters of NAMES--always remembering to use a capital letter for the first letter of a name. We added the word like to our word list. Practice reading. Keep a running list. These words are SIGHT WORDS, and the children should be able to read them ON SIGHT. Many of the children are doing an excellent job of reading the few words that we’ve had. Don’t let the list grow anymore before you begin to practice. The Books in a Bag continue to come home weekly. These reinforce our sight words.
In our Unit 2 books, we continue working with PATTERNS. We have learned to recognize and identify an AB Pattern, ABB Pattern, and AAB Pattern, and ABC patterns. We’re over half way through this book. We’re focusing on which parts of the pattern repeats itself now.
Congratulations to the following Books Read Certificate earners: Jannah, Savannah,--50 books read, and Dylan B.—100 books read!!! GREAT JOB! Lots of stickers were earned this week. Keep Reading!
Happy Sacks will come home on Monday with Isaiah, Jannah, Jeremiah and Khloe You have the letter “I”—unfortunately, those vowels are tough. See what interesting “I” thing you can find to share.
Jannah is our newest Kindergarten Kid. Take a look at her special bulletin board chart in our hall. She is also featured on the web page.
Since next week is a short week, our “I” sheets will come home on MONDAY. They’ll be due back by Thursday. ALSO, since we go to the Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday, I’m sending Report Cards home on Monday. I had originally told you Tuesday, but we’ll be bringing the pumpkin home that day, and I think Monday is a “safer” day. You may just keep the card and bring it with you to conference with any questions/concerns that you might have.
Thanks to Savannah who brought GUMMIES last week for “G” week. We enjoyed them last week, and again this week. THANKS! Mmmmmm!
Many of you have asked about the Giving Train. It will be loaded for Parent-Teacher Conferences. These will be items that we will use for a special Thanksgiving unit. These are items that are not in our normal school supplies, but give us different media to work with and helps to reinforce some of our skills. Please help us out with an item if you can. This is located directly on the wall outside our classroom.
Don’t forget your conference time—Wednesday afternoon/evening, or Thursday afternoon or evening! NO SCHOOL on Friday. Come to Trunk or Treat.
IF your child has a special Halloween shirt or item of clothing—even though we don’t actually celebrate Halloween, I know that children often have cute Halloween clothing. That is allowed, but please wear it before Halloween, since we’ll be celebrating the Reformation that day, and will be wearing RED.
DON’T FORGET TO RESERVE THE EVENING OF THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7—Christmas Program.
Have a fun-filled leaf raking weekend. Plenty at the Eggers’ house if you don’t have any of your own to rake—come on over!!! :>)
