1.  Details of Post

Role Title: Clergy Development Officer (0.5), Priest in Charge (0.5)

Name of Benefice: High Hoyland and Clayton West with Scissett.

Deanery: Kirkburton Deanery

Episcopal Area: Huddersfield

Initial point of contact on terms of service: Archdeacon of Halifax/ Director of Clergy Development

2.  Role Purpose

General

·  To share with the Bishop both in the cure of souls and in responsibility, under God, for “building confident Christians, growing churches and transforming communities.”

·  To have regard to the calling and responsibilities of the clergy as described in the Canons, the Ordinal, the Code of Professional Conduct for the Clergy and other relevant legislation including safeguarding.

·  To collaborate within the deanery and episcopal area in mission and ministry and to seek opportunities for sharing resources wherever possible.

·  To seek ecumenical cooperation wherever possible.

·  To gain a good working understanding of the Diocese and the support it provides.

·  To encourage Christian stewardship of people's time, money and abilities so that the ministry of the church is strengthened and enabled.

3.  Specific

Clergy Development Officer (0.5)

·  To work as part of a team led by the Director of Clergy Development to organise, develop and resource clergy training and development in respect of IME Phase 2 and Clergy Continuing Ministerial Development

·  To have oversight of the delivery of IME 2 and CMD in the Huddersfield Episcopal Area

·  To seek to work collaboratively with officers in the School of Ministry and lay Development Teams to encourage life-long learning and discipleship for all

Priest in Charge of Clayton West and Scissett (0.5)

·  To ensure that a high standard of worship and preaching is provided across the two churches to encourage both the existing congregations and new members to live and grow as Disciples of Christ.

·  To empower the pastoral team to represent the church within the parishes as well as maintaining a personal presence within the villages

·  To work with schools in the villages and to support outreach and ministry to young people and families

·  To seek further opportunities for the development and use of the two church buildings by the community.

Scissett Church was closed after lead theft in 2014 but hard work by the congregation and community enabled it to reopen in 2016. There is now an active Friends Group which is working on ideas for regular community use.
