Reporting to:Challenge Events Manager and Special Events Manager
Background:The Events team is part of a successful Fundraising team that includes a Corporate Partnerships Team, a Trusts team, a Major Donors team and a Volunteer Fundraising team.
Main purpose:To provide effective support for the Challenge Events Manager and Special Events Manager, to achieve agreed fundraising targets and objectives through the delivery of a series of high quality events. The main focus will be:
Providing key and intensive support to the Challenge Events Manager, concerning the planning and implementation all aspects of our challenge, running and cycling portfolio.
Developing relationships with participants, individuals and organisations to maximize on fundraising targets and ensure long term charity involvement.
Providing key support in the organisation of all aspects of the Special Events programme including sourcing prizes, managing guest lists, marketing and liaising with suppliers.
Key areas of responsibility :
Delivering a highly successful London Marathon event, cultivating participants, organising logistics of the Expo and managing marathon Sunday. Ensure that income targets are met and complete follow up and evaluation afterwards.
- To manage and deliver the Ride London Surrey 100 event, providing high levels of supporter care and ensure income targets are met and complete follow up and evaluation afterwards.
To support the Challenge Events Manager with Muscular Dystrophy UK’s Town and Gown 10k run series. Focusing on the marketing and recruitment of Oxford and Cambridge Town and Gown, and Oxford’sjunior 3k Run participants and helping with on the day logistics at both events.
Under the direction of the Challenge Events Manager, develop and maintain fundraising relationships with recruited marathon and Town and Gown participants and ensure they receive the best in donor care; offering advice, support and encouragement and monitoring their financial performance.
To work closely with the Regional Development team in the promotion and recruitment for events in our larger cycling portfolio.
To support the Special Events Manager with key elements of activity within the special events portfolio, taking ownership of key projects, ensuring targets are met for income, publicity, marketing, supporter development and other.
To work with the Online Manager to create and update event related web pages on the Muscular Dystrophy UK website and appropriate related external websites. Be the social networking ambassador for the events team regularly providing content through Facebook and Twitter.
To ensure that up-to-date computerised and manual records are kept, relating to existing and potential event participants with responsibility of monitoring income totals and thanking.
To handle any other duties as defined by the Challenge Events Manager, Special Events Manager and Head of Events.

1 Education and qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
2 Experience
- Experience in events organising either in the voluntary or
corporate / commercial sector
- Working with volunteer committees
- Experience of using a database (preferably Raisers Edge)
- Experience of producing promotional materials/writing applications
3 Skills
- Developed writing skills for correspondence with an external audience
- Strong communication skills to deal effectively in person and by telephone with
a wide range of people in a friendly but professional manner
- Attention to detail; high degree of accuracy
- Self motivated with a systematic, consistent and methodical approach to work
- Ability to prepare monthly work plans/reports which meet measurable targets
- Competence in using Microsoft Word and Excel

- Hours: 35 per week.
