Babies and Books Week __ Theme
Introduction:
Hello my name is ________ and I am a _______ librarian here at the _____ Library and I’m very happy to be here. Just a few reminders before we begin:
1. Please pup your phones on silent or vibrate for the duration of the program.
2. If your child becomes restless, please feel free to leave the room, the door is unlocked and we will welcome you back in once your child settles down.
3. Imagine that there is an invisible field around me and the flannel board. If your child goes into this area, please physically come up and remove them. Once one goes, they all go.
Throughout the program we will be repeating many of the rhymes. There is a rhyme handout in the back of the room to help you become familiar with the rhymes we do. I encourage you to do some of these rhymes with your child at home. Repetition helps to keep connections between developing brain cells.
Intro songs:
Hello song (_____ puppet)
Hi, hello and how are you?
How are you?
How are you?
Hi, hello and how are you?
How are you to-day?

This is my Book I open it wide to see all the pictures that are inside
This is my ball, so big and so round. To toss in the air or roll on the ground
This is my umbrella; it keeps me dry, as the raindrops fall from the cloudy sky
This is my kitty; just hear him purr, as I gently stroke his long silky fur

Each week we do an interactive rhyme with our babies. This teaches them to wait their turn and to accept and give positive reinforcement for a job well done.

Hickory dickory dare.
The pig flew up in the air.
Farmer Brown
Soon brought her down.
Hickory dickory dare.

Ring your bells today.

To ring your bells today-ay! (x2)

(sung to tune of Muffin Man)
Oh do you know the ice-cream man, the ice-cream man, the ice-cream man
Do you know the ice-cream man who lives down on our street.

Board book break: (2minutes)
We do our board book break every week. This encourages print awareness: Noticing print, knowing how to handle a book and knowing how to follow the words on a page. This helps your child become interested and enjoying books.
Play music, take attendance, photo opportunities, get ready for next segment while parents are reading with their child(ren)
Books Away Song: “Books away, books away, time to put the books away”
Bubbles: Put on music CD with Bubbles song and blow bubbles
Closing rhyme:
Can you clap with two hands
two hands two hands
Can you clap with two hands?
Clap clap clap clap clap
Can you kick with two feet,
Can you kiss with two lips,
Can you wave good-bye,
Good-bye. See you next time.
Ending:
Thank you all for coming today
There are some books around the room so please check some of them out.
And remember to read to your baby everyday!
