Opened in 2005 the Alameda County Family Justice Center (ACFJC) helps victims of domestic violence, child abuse, elder and dependent adult abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, trafficking and stalking who historically often sought help from a fragmented, disjointed system of agencies offering related, but uncoordinated services. The ACFJC now serves as the heart of a comprehensive service delivery system made up of over 100 public and private agency partners throughout the Bay Area, providing a gateway to safety, healing, and empowerment for victims of abuse. We advocate for and construct a future where there is zero tolerance for domestic violence, child abuse, elder and dependent adult abuse, sexual assault and exploitation, trafficking and stalking.

Job Description: STEP-UP Coordinator

Overview: STEP-UP (Survivor Training and Empowerment Program-Utilizing your Potential) is a training and self-sufficiency program for survivors of domestic violence. The purpose of STEP-UP is to empower women with the personal, professional, and financial safety skills to begin reconstructing their lives and ultimately breaking the cycle of domestic violence. This program will enable women to become self-sufficient for not only themselves but for their families, especially children. STEP-UP offers individualized empowerment sessions, on-site professional development classes, and group-based self-sufficiency workshops. The STEP-UP Coordinator, under supervision of the ACFJC Executive Director, is responsible for implementing this program.

Skills & Abilities: A successful STEP-UP Coordinatoris a very flexible person and exhibits flexibility when interacting with clients, team members, and the community or ACFJC partners. They are proactive, solution oriented and a self-starter. They are at their best in a fast paced dynamic environment. Interested candidates accomplish tasks because they are dependable and detail oriented. They have a strong drive to help others with complex situations, and use their strong communication skills and problem solving abilities to effectively collaborate with a variety of people.

Working closely with and under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the STEP-UP Coordinator will perform the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit STEP-UP participants through outreach to ACFJC onsite and offsite partners, and community-based organizations
  • Market STEP-UP through partnerships with ACFJC service providers, the Alameda County Library, and community job training and placement partners
  • Attend community outreach events
  • Create and adapt curricula and syllabi for workshops and professional development classes
  • Collaborate with ACFJC partners, local companies, non-profit organizations, universities, and Alameda County personnel to recruit guest speakers and instructors
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to working with victims of domestic violence and their children; or
  • At least two years’ experience in the field of working with victims of domestic violence
  • Completion of 40-hour advocate training by a certified domestic violence service provider agency(or will complete within 90 days of hire)
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good computer skills, including Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to handle crisis situations in a professional manner
  • Ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Passing fingerprinting and criminal background check
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
