Grand Final Lang Park PCYC Basketball Corporate Cup
“ For men and women ” played 28th October 2014
‘A ’ Grade Final Blue Machine verses Master Blasters.
This had the makings of a great game. Blue were in full force, Master Blasters were ready to rumble. Jonno from Blasters came out of the blocks and in his usual relaxed manner shot 11 points, including 2 three pointers, drew fouls from the opposition and hit 100% of his free throws. Sef from Blue got 3 quick fouls in the first few minutes which was a real blow for Blue upsetting the rhythm of his play for the rest of the game. 3 points separated the teams at half time and we anticipated a great second half. Unfortunately for Blue the points dried up as pressure was applied to every shot and at the other end of the court Blasters shots were dropping and Blue was fouling. Frustration was apparent from Blue, silly fouls were committed and tech fouls resulted. For 30 minutes it was an excellent game but the last 10, Masters Blasters dominated and Blue had no answer. The ‘A’ Grade Premiers for 2014 Master Blasters shooting 50 pts to Blue Machines 35. Top scorers for Master Blasters: Jonno and James hit 13 each, Mitch 12, Chris 6 and Fiona and Louise 3 each. Scorers for Blue Machine: Geoff and Andrew 8 each, Sef 7, Rachel and Eli 4 each while Grete and John shot 2 each. Congratulation Master Blasters, a well deserved win.
‘ B ’ Grade Final Sports House versus Success Factors.
Sports House had 5 scorers for the first half hitting 28 pts while Success Factors had only 2 and they managed 16 pts. Success Factors appeared to be a bit ‘gun shy’ at the start and didn’t play their usual game which has been so good for them this year. The second half was much improved with Success Factors only loosing the half by 2 pts, but the damage was done in the first half and Sports House was the victor in the’ B’ grade final 48 to 34. Congratulations Sports House you have struggled during the year and at times I feared you would withdraw due to lack of numbers but you made it to the end. Thanks Jordan for chasing up players and hope you are able to hold it together for next season. Top scorers for S/House: Ian shot max.15, C. Robinson 10, S. Windsor 8, Ryan 6, Jordan 5 and Elecia 4. We unfortunately say farewell to Elecia who is off to work in London, you will miss us and the great weather, I guarantee. Good luck. Elecia! Success Factors top scorer was Frank-Peter with 14 pts, Frank is returning to Germany after a couple of years HOLIDAY at Success Factors, he will be sadly miss by his team and we at the PCYC. Frank said he enjoyed Corporate Cup and hadn’t played in years as there is nothing in Germany like our competition. Good luck Frank!.Christian, Chris and Ash assisted Frank hitting 6 each and Declan 2.pts. Better luck next year boys

“The Stirrer of the Competition” The person who is never lost for words on or off the court. Mostly hilarious thank heavens. Jordan Mullan from Sports House.
I extend my thanks and appreciation to the wonderful people who help every week with the running of the competition. Mr. Fred Van Dongen our bench official who travels from Scarborough each week ‘to give me a hand’. Fred as many of you know was the CEO of Brisbane Basketball for many years and he managed the Brisbane Bullets, the list of his basketball involvements goes on and on and I am very lucky to call him my Friend. Our Referees Barry and Jan are of an exceptional standard and to have them during the day is a real bonus for us and you. Barry McLeod has achieved all that is possible in Referring in Australia and is currently supervisor for Brisbane while Jan Mitchell currently referees 4 nights a week at BBI. Unfortunately Barry was in the United States for October thinking finals would be played in November but as I had to change it this year Kylie filled in for him.
I hope you will all consider playing with us next year. We will have nomination forms on the web from December and probably commence in late March if I can get the teams.. If you know of anyone who would be interested please let me know and I will follow them up. Thank you all for a great year and I hope 2015 will bring you all much happiness and good health. Cheers Jill
A special note from Blue Machine. They will be having a scrimmage on every Tuesdays at 12 noon and if any other teams or individuals would like to have a game please just turn up and join in. Jill
