Winter Fixtures List 2016 – 2017

During the winter, between 17thSeptember and 15th April the field 'belongs' to the rugby club, if it is not in use by them or the groundsman we may use it for outdoor practice, provided there is a senior archer present. However we must be prepared to leave immediately if asked.All ODP dates below are subject to last minute changes so please check the website > events & look out for emails.

Informal sessions are most likely to be available on some day-times but are likely to change from week to week. Please check the weekly newsletters and website. If you are interested, please text Nick on 07831 271951 and he will add you to his reminder list. Again it is important you let Nick know if you intend to shoot at these midweek sessions so he can notify you of changes and save you a wasted journey.

Regular sessions are as follows: -

Fridays evenings – 5 – 9pm – outdoor shooting at Old Deer Park under the floodlights starting 23rdSeptember.Wrap up warmly and enjoy winding down at the end of the week.

Postal Frostbite team rounds will take place on: - 4th Nov, 2ndDec, 6th Jan, 3rdFeb & 3rdMarch.

A Frostbite round is 3 dozen at 30m on an 80cm face (longbows shoot a Warwick), there are teams for recurve, compound, longbow & juniors. The best 3 or 4 scores each month are submitted so the more taking part the better!

Sunday afternoons – 2:00 – 4:30pm – indoor shootingstarting 25th September & finishing 2nd April

atthe Sports hall of Richmond upon Thames College TW2 7SJ. This is accessible from the westbound carriageway of the A316, towards Twickenham Stoop Stadium,access via Langhorn Drive. Please arrive to assist with setup so we are ready to shoot for 2:00pm.

Postal Portsmouth team rounds will take place on: -6th Nov, 18thDec, 22ndJan, 12thFeb & 12th March. There are teams for recurve & compound. The best 3 scores each month are submitted so the more taking part the better!

There is a club indoor competition for the best Bray 1 scored in each category throughout the winter season so keep submitting your score sheets and in January there is an ArcheryGB ‘January Challenge’ for the best Portsmouth scores.

If you’ve not shot indoors before, it is a little different from outdoors. The advantages are less walking, no weather to contend with a no risk of losing your arrows, but it is a bit cosy! It’s a great opportunity to work on your technique or to try new bits of kit. We generally shoot at 20yrds. The main rounds are Portsmouths which is 5 dozen on a 60cm face or Bray 1 which is 2½ dozen on a 40cm face. We also have a full size target face for those who prefer to practice on that. Recurve & compound archers can gain indoor classification badges lettered H-A which will be presented at the opening shoot.

Saturday practice sessions starting 24th September & finishing on 1st April

In addition, we hope that we will be able to offer some Saturday practice sessions and fun shoots outdoors at ODP. This will be subject to rugby not wanting to use the field and may be changed at short notice.

Please see the fixtures list for dates & times as these vary.Once a month we have scheduled a fun shoot for all members, often with food involved so we hope for a good turn-out on these weeks!

Away shoots

There are a number of indoor competitions during the winter season. As these are all at short distances (usually 20yrds) they are suitable for everyone. Please ask if you need advice as to what would suit your ability. These tend to book up very quickly so look out for details and sign up with Barbara quickly.
