2016 Scholarship Application Process
Cadets must meet the requirements to attend the activity they are requesting a scholarship for.
Only one scholarship per cadet per year.
Applicants must have attended at least 85% of the meetings for the 6-month period prior to the application due date. This will be verified based on the squadron sign-in log.
Applications are due as follows:
· For Spring Encampment – 28 March 2016
· For Johnson Flight Academy – 20 May 2016
· For Summer Encampment – 10 June 2016
Applicants must appear before a Shorty Powers Review Board (date to be determined). The board will consist of 3 to 5 Senior Members of the squadron as appointed by the unit commander.
Essays will be graded with regard to the persuasion logic, sentence structure, spelling and grammar.
The essays will serve as a portion of the material where interview questions from review board members will originate.
Cadets will be observed and evaluated on the following
· Compliance with Wear of the Blues Uniform
· Compliance with Grooming Standards
· Military Bearing throughout the review board process. Overall military bearing for the 6 months prior will be taken into consideration.
· Customs and Courtesies during the review board process. Overall customs and courtesies for the 6 months prior will be taken into consideration.
· Demonstrated Enthusiasm for the Cadet Program
· Participation in CAP activities other than meetings
· Demonstrated Leadership within the Cadet Corps
· Commitment to and demonstration of the CAP Core Values
· Answers to questions covering leadership, aerospace, emergency services, situational analysis and current events.
Selections of the review board are final.
