Job Purpose:
Support the Chair of the University Industry Sector Team (UIST) in driving forward the University Corporate Strategy by taking responsibility for the co-ordination of activities that will encourage and facilitate interactions and collaborations with partners in the Health and Pharmaceutical sector. The aim of the UIST is to position the University of Southampton as the partner of choice for the Health and Pharmaceutical sector for research, innovation and staff recruitment.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities (6-10 bullet points maximum)
Drive forward and project manage initiatives working closely with key researchers in all stakeholder academic units and support teams within Professional Services – including RIS, Career Destinations Communications and Development. This will require interactions at University Senior Management, Head of Academic Units and Directors of Professional Services level.
Assist the UIST in managing key strategic relationships with external organisations (funding bodies, business and government departments) – seeking and pursuing opportunities to further the objectives of the UIST. Co-ordinate interactions with relevant organisations locally, regionally, nationally and abroad, and assist in building intelligence about these organisations to maximise opportunities for collaborations. This may include the management of databases of University contacts with the organisations in the above groups, maintaining active links with other University Offices, and advising members of staff on links with these organisations.
Work with key academics and collaborate with other cross discipline co-ordinators in delivering a programme of activities such as showcases, focus group meetings, lecture programmes, open industry days to facilitate networking opportunities between the Health and Pharmaceutical sector and University staff and students.
Undertake background research and perform detailed analysis to provide the UIST with briefings and quality reports. To undertake and co-ordinate specific fact-finding tasks relating to the effective implementation of the Corporate Relations Strategy (eg performance metrics, market comparators etc). To prepare presentations for the Chair and other position papers for consideration by the UIST stakeholders.
Represent and/or ensure the UIST are represented at appropriate external meetings, including as necessary personally representing the UIST and ensuring that the information provided at such meetings is circulated subsequently.
Contribute to and support the development and implementation of a strategy to promote and communicate the aims and objectives of the UIST to both internal and external audiences. Assist in the development and design of appropriate marketing literature. Create and maintain a website presence for the UIST to showcase the University capability to the Health and Pharmaceutical Industry and to facilitate a virtual internal environment. To work with the University’s Communications team to raise awareness of and champion recognition of the UIST.
Provide executive support to the UIST Steering Group by planning, tracking and co-ordinating activities that contribute to the overall strategic objectives of the Team. Take responsibility for curating meeting agendas, producing minutes and notes from the Board and working groups, and by ensuring that actions are followed through and delivered in a timely manner.

Special Requirements:
Willingness to work non-standard hours when evening events are organised and travel on business as required.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience:
Degree, NVQ4 or equivalent professional qualification.
Higher degree in subject relevant to the Health and Pharmaceutical sector
Significant, relevant and recent experience in a similar or related role in a commercial or public sector organisation
Knowledge of the Health and Pharmaceutical sector demonstrated through established network of contacts in the sector
Proven successful experience of project management
Experience of dealing with bid management within the HEI sector
Experience of events management and dealing with business/corporate customers / X
