A HOUSE RESOLUTION
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE SUMMERVILLE HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITIVE CHEER TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2008 CLASS AAAA SOUTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE COMPETITIVE CHEER CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM AND COACH SAUNDRA GUERARD ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.
Whereas, in an electrifying performance, the Summerville High School competitive cheer team capped its outstanding season by capturing the 2008 Class AAAA South Carolina High School League Competitive Cheer Championship title on November 22, 2008, in Greenville; and
Whereas, at the title competition, the Green Wave sailed past all challengers, including all former State champions, with a score of 281, higher than any other team in the State for Classes AA through AAAA; and
Whereas, excellence in cheerleading demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as teamwork and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Coach Saundra Guerard and her team powerhoused their way to the top and showed both fans and foes alike that the Summerville Green Wave’s win was not an accident; and
Whereas, excitement over this title win was especially intense because it made school history, marking Summerville’s first State competitive cheer championship; and
Whereas, the team showed its mettle in numerous other triumphs during the season, among them claiming firstplace honors at the Ultimate Cheer Classic, the Stratford Invitational, the Debbie Rogers Classic, and the Palmetto Classic; and
Whereas, the twentythree young women of the Summerville High School competitive cheer team showed great poise, energy, and grace in performing, always remaining sportsmanlike and representing their school and surrounding community admirably; and
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the Summerville High School competitive cheer team for their determination and perseverance in achieving, both in the classroom and on the mat, and expects to hear of great accomplishments in the seasons to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Summerville High School competitive cheer team on its impressive win of the 2008 Class AAAA South Carolina High School League Competitive Cheer Championship title, and honor the team and Coach Saundra Guerard on an exceptional season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Roger Edwards and Coach Saundra Guerard of Summerville High School.
