Director of the NC Pro Bono Resource Center
12 month contract $45,000-$60,000 + benefits allowance
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of the NC Pro Bono Resource Center is a new position and will support a new initiative of the NC Equal Access to Justice Commission. Under the guidance of the Commission’s Pro Bono Committee and EATJC staff, this position will be responsible for development of the new NC Pro Bono Resource Center.
The goal of the creation of the NC Pro Bono Resource Center is to increase pro bono participation statewide through the following activities:
· Developing pro bono projects with existing stakeholders statewide, with an initial focus on relating projects in Wake and Mecklenburg counties to meet unmet legal needs using recent law graduates.
· Implementing voluntary pro bono reporting and recognition statewide.
· Providing support for existing pro bono activities including recruitment, training and communication.
· Studying and making recommendations for mandatory pro bono reporting.
· Studying and making recommendations for mandatory pro bono service.
· Providing other services to the EATJC’s Pro Bono Committee.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, AND TRAINING:
Required: 4 year college degree.
Preferred: J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school. Licensed in North Carolina or eligible to take the next available NC bar examination or eligible to obtain reciprocity in North Carolina.
EXPERIENCE: Requires a minimum of two years of (i) experience with exposure to and experience with poverty law, legal services and/or public policy issues and (ii) experience coordinating volunteer projects. Excellent public relations, management, organizational and communication skills required.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Knowledge of issues related to poverty law, the indigent population in North Carolina and computer technology experience.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
This is an independent contractor position.
This contractor performs services for the Executive Director of the NC EATJC.
This contractor provides services for the Equal Access to Justice Commission’s Pro Bono Committee.
