By Rail

You can find train timetable information at There is a taxi rank outside the main entrance of the rail station. The taxi fare to Devonshire Hall should be about £4.50. The number 1 and the number 95 service leave every 10 minutes from Infirmary Street on City Square close to the rail station (see map) – ask the driver for Leeds Girl’s High School. Cumberland Road is on the other side of the road; the Devonshire main entrance is second left.

By Air

Leeds is served by two major airports, Leeds Bradford and Manchester. Regular flights are available from a large number of European and International cities. Leeds Bradford Airport is about 10 miles from the city centre and a taxi will cost approximately £25. There are buses from the airport to the bus station and several buses from there to Leeds Girls’ High School which is opposite Cumberland Road. There are no direct bus routes but the traveline web site can be used to plan your journey.

By Car

From the South (M1)

At junction 43 the motorway splits. Take the right hand lanes and follow the M621 Leeds Centre. Exit the M621 at junction 3 and follow signs for the city centre and universities on the City Centre loop road. Pass under the railway bridges, keeping in the outside lane, and enter City Square. With the statue of the Black Prince to your right, continue along the loop road and turn right at the next traffic lights onto East Parade. Travel up East Parade in the left hand lane, straight across The Headrow into Calverley Street (the Town Hall will be on your left) past the Leeds General Infirmary (on your left) and filter into the right hand lane before turning right immediately after the Civic Hall (on your right). Turn left at the next traffic lights onto Woodhouse Lane (A660) and continue along this road, passing the University main entrance on the left. After just over 1/2 mile cross over a main crossroads (Hyde Park corner) and take the third right onto Cumberland Road. The Devonshire main entrance is second left.

From the M62 Eastbound

Exit the M62 at junction 27 to the M621. Exit the M621 at junction 2 (signposted Harrogate, York and Skipton) after a few hundred yards you will come to a major roundabout. Take the third exit to the city centre and join the inner ring road; from there take the exit signposted Skipton, which will bring you onto Woodhouse Lane (A660). Continue along this road, passing the University main entrance on the left. After just over 1/2 mile cross over a main crossroads (Hyde Park corner) and take the third right onto Cumberland Road. The Devonshire main entrance is second left.

From the M62 Westbound

Exit M62 at junction 29 to join M1 northbound. Continue from – From the South (M1)

From A1 Northbound

Leave A1 (at exit to Ferrybridge Services) to join M62 westbound. Exit M62 at junction 29 to join M1 northbound. Continue from - From the South (M1)

From A1 Southbound

Leave the A1 taking the A64 towards Leeds and join the inner ring road (dual carriageway). Take the exit signposted Skipton A660, which will bring you onto Woodhouse Lane (A660). Continue along this road, passing the University main entrance on the left. After just over 1/2 mile cross over a main crossroads (Hyde Park corner) and take the third right onto Cumberland Road. The Devonshire main entrance is second left.

By Rail

The campus is five minutes by taxi from the railway station, there is a taxi rank outside the main entrance of the station (see map).

There is a now a completely free bus service running every few minutes Monday to Saturday, linking the University and other key city locations. There is a bus stop outside the front of the station (see map). This drops off at the southern end of campus, so please allocate an extra 10 minutes to your journey to the main campus.

You can walk from the station to the university in about 20 minutes. Map1 shows the following directions:

Come out of the station into City square; with the Queens Hotel behind you, walk straight up Park Row. Continue up Park Row until the first major junction, The Headrow. Turn right and walk along The Headrow, past the Light shopping centre on your left. At the end of The Light centre turn left up Woodhouse Lane. Follow this road up, passing Morrisons supermarket on your right, Leeds Metropolitan University on your left - and the Dry Dock boat pub on an island on your right! The University campus begins in another 50 metres or so on your left. To reach the Parkinson building, carry on up Woodhouse Lane to the clocktower building.

By Air

Leeds is linked to the major motorways M1 and M62. Here are some common routes by car (maps of these routes may be found on the University web site Parking at the University is limited during the week (there are very unlikely to be any spaces available after 9am) and costs £3.50 a day. At the weekend, it’s free and there is plenty of space.

From the South (M1)

On Foot

The university is about a 10-15 minute walk from Devonshire Hall. Leave Devonshire Hall and turn right down Cumberland Road towards Headingley Lane. At the end of Cumberland Road turn left and walk down Headingely Lane. Continue along Headingley Lane as it turns into Woodhouse Lane and passes through Hyde Park, past Clarendon Road on your left. You will see the high white square tower of the University ahead of you on the right hand side of Woodhouse Lane. Continue down Woodhouse Lane until you reach the tower. Go up the wide steps under the tower and enter the University here (Parkinson Court).

By Bus

Buses leave every few minutes from the bus stop on Headingley Lane just at the end of Cumberland Road and take about 10 minutes to reach the University. Buses run 24 hours a day.

When you get off the bus you will see the high white square tower of the university. Go up the wide steps under the tower and enter the university here (Parkinson Court).
