The Donald R. Kelsey Undergraduate Research AwardDistinguished alumnus Dr. Donald R. Kelsey establishes the first award for undergraduate chemical research in honor of his research mentor Dr. Robert Zey (professor emeritus). This award has been established with the UCM Foundation for an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in chemistry. Supporting the discipline interests of the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics, this fund will provide a stipend to be used for tuition and/or personal living expenses during the time the student is actively engaged in a chemistry research project as determined by the department. The recipient must have, and maintain, an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 and agree to prepare a report related to his/her contributions to the chosen research project. The Donald R. Kelsey Undergraduate Research Award will consist of a stipend of at least $500 awarded once each academic year.

CRITERIA:
To apply, a student must:
a. be pursuing a chemistry degree at UCM;
b. be pursuing a degree in chemistry with a minimum overall cumulative GPA of 3.00;
c. be actively engaged in a chemistry research project as determined by the department;
d. be prepared to write a report at the culmination of the project
SELECTION PROCESS:
1. The recipient(s) of The Donald R. Kelsey Undergraduate Research Award will be recommended by a selection committee designated by the Chair of the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry & Physics. Recipient(s) shall be approved by the chair and the departmental awards committee.
2. The application must be delivered to the departmental office by March 13. Recipient(s) shall be announced by May 5th of any given year.
3. The Department’s Award Committee, with the approval of the chair will annually establish the award amount. In a given year, the Selection Committee may exercise the option of making no selection.

If I am selected as a recipient of this scholarship, I understand that I must meet the criteria as outlined in this application at the beginning of the semester in which the scholarship is to be applied to my student account. If my status should change before/during the academic year, I understand that I must notify the Department to which this application has been submitted. I further understand that a change in my status may affect my eligibility and the application of the scholarship to my student account.
