Fall 2016 NAMI Greater Des Moines Classes

(F2F) class is for family members and friends of adults with mental illness. Attendees can be age 14 and up.The class is 12 weeks long - 2.5 hours/class. There are 3 locations this fall.

NAMI GDM Peer to Peer Class for Veterans and Active Military - starting Mondays Sept. 12 and ending Nov. 21 - 5 to 7 PM at the Vet Center, 1821 22nd St., Suite 115, West Des Moines. FallNAMI GDM Basics class-Tuesdays -Sept. 13 to Oct. 25, 6-8 PM - please send your contact information to:. This class is for parents and caregivers of youth with severe emotional disorder. No registration fee. The class is 6 weeks long.

Friday, Sept. 9 - What is Mindfulness Meditation? Research shows that mindfulness meditation can help reduce stress, lower anxiety, improve low mood, and increase physical and mental well-being. During this four hour workshop, participants will gain an understanding of mindfulness and learn how to practice mindfulness meditation, mindful eating, and mindful movement. We will also explore the role self-compassion plays in mindfulness and learn some simple self-compassion exercises.

Sign up for on-line NAMI Homefront Class

NAMI Homefront is a free, six-session class for family, friends and significant others of Military Service Members and Veterans. The class helps families comprehend what the Military Service Member/ Veteran is experiencing related to trauma, combat stress, civilian life, PTSD and other mental health conditions.

The course is designed to help family members understand and support their Military Service Member or Veteran while maintaining their own well-being. The trained teachers of this course are also military/Veteran families who have a loved one with a mental health condition.

NAMI Homefront online classes are scheduled for:
September 8 – October 13, 2016 (six consecutive Thursdays from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. ET)
September 12 – October 17, 2016 (six consecutive Mondays from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. ET)

*All participants are screened to ensure this class is appropriate for their needs.
