Job Description

Job Summary

To be an effective part of the Nursing team to ensure the provision of a high level of specialist palliative care within a multi disciplinary approach.

Key Tasks

1.To work as part of the multi disciplinary team to assess, plan, implement, deliver and evaluate specialist palliative nursing care for patients in the Hospice.

2.To ensure that accurate records of care are maintained according to standards, with appropriate details and in line withlegal requirements.

3.To work with the infection control nurse to ensure the highest standards of infection control within the hospice

4.To ensure that all clinical policies and procedures are followed at all times

5.To work with members of the multi-disciplinary team in order to meet the needs of patients and their families

6. To provide mentorship and teaching to visiting students as appropriate

7.To ensure safe working practices are maintained within the In Patient Unit.

8.To ensure that actively keep up to date with developments, and advances in palliative care by participating in educational opportunities, and ensuring that prepare to meet requirements of PREP.

To undertake all duties in accordance with the law, hospice philosophy, recognised professional guidelines and the hospice commitment to equality of opportunity and collective responsibility.

The above tasks are indicative of the role to be carried out, they may change from time to time in collaboration with the post holder and in line with service need.

Essential Education and Qualifications / Registered Nurse with current pin
Essential Experience / Current practical experience of nursing in a clinical setting
Essential Knowledge Skill / Excellent communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Understanding and interest in end of life care
Understanding of the requirement for accurate record keeping and skills in maintaining clear records
Understanding of clinical audit
Understanding of infection control issues.
Understanding of dressings
An understanding of and commitment to multi disciplinary working
Understanding of patient protection from abuse
Patient centred approach
Good Organisational Skills
