Mobile Language Lab

Improve your Listening and Speaking skills using:

• iPod Touch devices with wireless internet access
• SmartTalk recorders

• MacBook computers

The Mobile Language Lab at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo’s English Language Institute allows students to study at any time and anyplace. iPods are provided free to ELI students.

With the iPod Touch, students can search and download podcasts from thousands of sources, such as CNN, National Geographic and National Public Radio. These extra hours of listening comprehension practice are extremely effective in increasing students’ skills.

Students can also surf the web & check email using their iPods, giving them easy access to online resources.

With the SmartTalk recorder, students can record and listen to their own speaking, which helps to improve pronunciation and fluency. Students can also record interviews, practice presentations and even make their own podcasts. Using the Wi-Fi capability, students can email recordings directly to instructors, increasing the amount of individual feedback that they receive.

MacBook computers are also used in the classroom for presentations.
