St. Joseph Youth Ministry faith formation sessions, events, retreats, sacramental preparation, etc.
are open to all youth in grades 7th – 12th (some events specific to mid high (7-8) and some specific to high school (9-12))
7-8 Grade
1. Wednesday Night Faith Formation (English): Oct 2nd – May 3rd 6:45pm-8:15pm in the gym/eastroom.
7th Grade Youth – this group utilizes Catholic Connections Resource from St. Mary’s Press, which follows the outline of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
8th Grade Youth – this group utilizes Encounter – a journey through Salvation History by Ascension Press; Theology of the Body by Ascension Press; and Faith Fusion by Our Sunday Visitor.
2. Sunday Youth Gathering (Spanish): Oct 2nd – May 3rd 11:30am-1:15pm in the eastroom, followed by 1:30pm Mass - this group utilizes Encounter – a journey through Salvation History by Ascension Press; Theology of the Body by Ascension Press; and Faith Fusion by Our Sunday Visitor.

High School
1. Wednesday Youth Night (English): Oct 2nd – May 3rd 6:45pm-8:15pm in Youth Room.
This group rotates through several themes:
Hot Topic – a great opportunity to address the important issues our youth face today and how our faith guides us and leads us to heaven
Dead Theologian Society – a night dedicated to learning about the saints
Lectio Divina and The Mass –digging into Scripture and reflecting on the upcoming Sunday readings
Sacred Scripture - delving into Scripture and how it reveals God’s plan for our Salvation
2. Sunday Youth Gathering: Oct 2nd – May 3rd (Spanish 11:30am-1pm and English 5:30pm-7pm in Youth Room)
These groups rotate through 4 themes:
This Is Our Faith - a wonderful opportunity to address key components of our faith from the communion of saints to the beauty of the Mass and why they are still relevant today
Dead Theologian Society - a night dedicated to learning about the saints
Lights Camera Faith – movie night that looks at movies that correlate to living our faith (English)
The Mass – a walk through the Mass (Spanish)
Sacred Scripture – delving into Scripture and how it reveals God’s plan for our Salvation
Sacramental Preparation:
Our Youth Ministry Sacramental Preparation is open to youth in grades 7 -12*. Those wishing to receive the sacrament of confirmation are expected to be actively involved (weekly commitment) in the parish community as well as regular* participation in the Sunday liturgy, (*meaning every Sunday/Saturday Vigil Mass and Holy Days of Obligation) at least one year prior to entering sacramental preparation. Expectations for Sacramental preparation includes 6 monthly sessions with parents and/or sponsors, monthly reflections, attendance of 1 retreat, service reflection, reflection on the Gospel of Mark, letter to Archbishop Alexander Sample and Monsignor Huneger, attendance of 2 parish/vicariate youth events, in addition to continued weekly involvement in the parish, and regular Mass attendance.
*Please note that all youth must be able to recite the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, and Act of Contrition as well as list the 7 Sacraments, and 10 Commandments before beginning sacramental preparation.
For those seeking 1st Communion and Confirmation, the above expectations must be met in addition to 2 parent meetings and the 1st Communion Retreat.
*youth must be in at least the 9th grade to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
