PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

A.Examine areas to receive curing compound. Notify Engineer if surfaces are unacceptable. Do not begin application until unacceptable conditions are corrected.

3.2PREPARATION

A.Clean substrate of substances that might interfere with penetration or performance of concrete sealer. Remove oil, curing compounds, laitance, and other substances that could prevent adhesion or penetration of concrete sealers.

B.Protect adjoining work, including sealant bond surfaces, from spillage or blow-over of concrete sealer. Cover adjoining and nearby surfaces of aluminum and glass if there is the possibility of concrete sealer being deposited on surfaces. Cover live plants and grass.

3.3APPLICATION

A.Freshly placed concrete should not receive sealer prior to 7-14 days cure time. Apply coating at a rate of 200 square feet per gallon of concrete sealer on surfaces indicated for treatment. Application rate will vary depending surface finish. Immediately work sealer into surface with stiff bristle brush until product begins to feel slick under foot (minimum of 20 minutes) without letting material dry. Mist with water if material begins to dry. If after 20 minutes, material is still not slick under foot, continue to wait until it is. Flush entire surface with water, then squeegee or wet vacuum off all excess material, leaving absolutely no residue.

3.4CLEANING

A.Protective coverings: Remove protective coverings from adjacent surfaces and other protected areas.

  1. Immediately clean concrete sealer from adjoining surfaces and surfaces soiled or damaged by water-repellent application as work progresses. Comply with manufacturer's written cleaning instructions.

3.5PROTECTION

  1. Protect horizontal surfaces from traffic until sealing compound has fully cured.

3.6MAINTENANCE

  1. Mop floor on regular basis. Floor will gain a soft satin gloss with regular cleaning. A floor buffer can be used to bring out gloss immediately.
