1) Become a Lab Captain: (extra credit possible) up to 20 pts.

  • Each lab captain has one side of the room to monitor for one month

This includes:

  • Sinks (wipe sinks out - clean out drains) / Counters
  • Floor /Sweep area (pick up paper, lab materials, pins, etc.)
  • Back counter (clean up trash, lab materials)
  • Organize & clean up front lab table
  • Make sure all chairs are up at the end of the lab
  • It is not YOUR job to clean up area, just make sure lab group assigned to area does it.
  • If they DON’T DO IT - it’s your job.
  • Help pass back papers, assist with class demonstrations, etc.

2) Attend class READY TO WORK: pen / sharpened pencil, notebook and biology book.

3) THINK / QUESTION / INQUIRE & DOUBT / ASK QUESTIONS!

  • Remember: There is no such thing as a dumb question.

4) Do not get up in the middle of class to throw something in the trash – Do it before or after class.

5) Think how each topic relates to you and to the REAL WORLD.

6)BOOK:Biology: Holt McDougal. This book is an excellent resource with several interactive quizzes, labs, presentations, e-edition of text, virtual labs, animations, study guides and much more. Become VERY familiar with this website and the resources available to you: ClassZone.com

7) VOCABULARY: Vocabulary is a large part of science; new words will constantly be introduced. Go to the book website – and quiz yourself – over the material daily.

8) LABS: Read instructions carefully. Know WHY you are doing each lab, and whatthe results show. Complete questions from the lab the SAME DAY you do the lab – it is easy to fall behind on notebooks. STAY UP TO DATE!

9)TESTS: Study your notes, labs, take practice quizzes, etc.

Notes:

  • Any cell phone that is visible during a test will be confiscated, and student will receive a zero for that test.
  • A cell phone being used (texting, etc.) during class will be taken and can be picked up at the assistant principals office later in the day
  • Cheating during a test will result in azero – no negotiation.
  • I usually arrive at school by 6:45 a.m. If you need any help please stop in during that time or during Wednesday/Thursdayhomeroom, or arrange another time with me
