Biography of DonaldFindlater, FSRA
Director of Research and Development at TheLucyFaithfullFoundation
Donald Findlater is Director of Research and Development with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation. The Foundation is a child protection charity concerned with all aspects of child sexual abuse prevention. It was heavily involved in the Home Office’s “Review of the Protection of Children from Sex Offenders” published June 2007.For seven years, Donald was Manager of the Wolvercote Clinic, the UK’s only residential assessment and treatment centre for men with allegations of or convictions for child sexual abuse. He was responsible for the development and delivery of Surrey Probation Service’s sex offender strategy.
Over recent years Donald has worked as a “subject matter expert” with the DCSF in the creation and delivery of “Safer Recruitment” training programmes for Heads and Governors of schools and for recruiters into the wider children’s workforce. He sits on Surrey Safeguarding Children Board, where he is Chair of the Communications and Safer Recruitment Subgroup.
During this time Donald has taken a keen interest in the role of the Church, both in the prevention of child sexual abuse and in the support and accountability offered to men, women and children known to represent a sexual risk to children. He has worked with the Catholic and Anglican churches in developing and reviewing their child protection procedures, and with the wider faith community, in order to better protect children from sexual abuse.
He is now leading the work of the Lucy Faithfull Foundation on piloting, on behalf of the Home Office, public awareness pilots aimed at helping parents and carers better protect their children from sexual offenders (Action 1 of Child Sex Offender Review 2007).
In November 2008, Donald was appointed Director of Stop it Now! U.K.and Ireland. / Programme
