Chapter 5 SEAM Hidden Costs and Hidden Performances
5.1 Five Hidden Costs of Metatheatre
These are the Hidden Costs and Unfulfilled Revenue areas of SEAM; these are symptoms of deeper root causes:
- Absent characters in the performance cause other characters to assume rules; thereby their own work is not done, ore there is a ripple effect as still others are pulled off their jobs to do the work of those pulled away to rill in for someone who is absent. This in turn, can result in lower productivity, wasted resources, as people less skilled to do a job try to make do. It can mean moving higher paid cast members over to do work that can be down by less paid people.
- Injured workers, either physically, or ones who are stressed and abused, will not be able to sustain professional work performances for too long.
- Turnover of characters means you have to spend money training replacements; there is less productivity during the learning curve.
- Low quality products and services can have a myriad of root cause effects.
- Low Productivity can mean any of the SEPTET elements is not being attended to.

5.4Six Financial impacts of SEPTET dysfunctions
- OVERWORK – When the there are absences or burnout in the cast of characters, other characters are overworked. When the time rhythm of the work organization is out of phase with the rhythm of the economy, there is over and under work.
- TIME – When the cast of characters spends time out of phase with the needs of the market, then time rhythm mismatches generate all kinds of hidden costs. For example, the mismatch of having a high paid manager do workers’ jobs, results in hidden costs and the untapped revenues stemming from overwork and mismatched work.
- WASTE OF RESOURCES – Each SEPTET element can result in a waste of resources. Ideologies that are unsustainable waste planet resources; they also lead to short term mentality which has to be paid for in the long term capital investment needed to clean up toxicity, pay increased worker health claims, and wasted revenues as eco-consumers move on to more green-friendly firms.
- LACK OF PRODUCTION FOR SALE – There is underutilized capacity in the Metatheatre. This can be from organizing frames that pit management against workers, without finding peaceful, even democratic ways they can collaborate. The cast of characters that works in harmony can generate more production for sale.
- NON-CREATION OF REVENUES – When the cast of characters aligns, they can work together to create more revenue. The Metatheatre intervention methods include the diagnosis of the untapped revenue potential, the Mirror Effect of mirroring-back the Metascript costs and untapped revenues. It also includes experiments with new scripts and rescripts of Metatheatre.
- RISK TO SURVIVAL and GROWTH – Firms that waste their energy in conflict and rivalry have precious little left to generate and expand revenue potential.
