Policies:

Expectations:

I expect you to read the section, before we discuss it in class.

I expect you to be in class every day; you can expect me to be in class every day, too. I expect you to be prepared for class every day; again, you can expect the same from me. I expect you to come see me if you’re having difficulty; you can expect me to provide the help you need. When you miss a class—for any reason—I expect you to read the text, watch the video from MyLabsplus, copy someone else’s notes, do the problems on the worksheet, and attempt the homework before coming to ask me about the material. In return, you can expect me to clarify any parts of the missed class that are still confusing. Finally, I expect you to treat me and your fellow classmates with courtesy and respect; you can expect the same treatment from me.

“Expectations for classroom behavior are outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, available in the catalog, schedule, and online. Students may not engage in any activity which the instructor deems disruptive or counterproductive to the goals of the class. Beepers, pagers, and cellular phones can be a nuisance and are not to be brought into the classroom. Instructors have the right to remove students from class for not following the Code of Conduct or other specified classroom rules.”

Cell phones, media devices, and/or other electronic devices (such as electronic smoking cessation devices) are disruptive to the learning environment and should not be used in class. Cell phones may not be used as calculators on the tests.

Academic Honesty:

Cheating, plagiarism, and other forms of academic dishonesty are unacceptable and are subject to disciplinary action which may include a zero for the test or homework, a failing grade for the course, or expulsion from RCC, depending on the severity of the case.

Americans with Disabilities Act:

"Any student who feels that he or she may need an academic accommodation for a disability, such as vision, hearing, orthopedic, learning disabilities, psychological or other medical conditions, should make an appointment with the Support Services Office. Wiseman Tutoring Center at the Redwood Campus 541-956-7337

Building B, office 9 on Riverside Campus 541-245-7537

TRC-191 by appointment on Table Rock Campus 541-245-7537

Smoking restrictions (Board policy):

Smoking is not permitted on the premises of Rogue Community College except in designated areas. For more information go to www.roguecc.edu/TPTF

Incompletes:

In general, incompletes will not be given. If 75% of the course work has been successfully completed, incompletes may be given for special cases. Each case will be evaluated on an individual basis. Incompletes will not be considered in lieu of a poor grade.

Tests

There will be 4 tests and they can be cumulative. There is an automatic 15% penalty for taking the test late within the week it was offered in class for any reason. After that no make-ups is allowed. Notes will not be allowed on tests.

Final exam will be a departmental cumulative knowledge exam. It will focus on the material from the course which is considered most crucial to continue on to MTH 95 or MTH 96. The final will weigh more than a unit test and you need to pass it in order to get the passing grade in class.

Homework: Hand-in-Homework(HIH): due on dates listed on the calendar and according to the style sheet below. Late homework will not be evaluated for credit. You may work/consult with classmates, but the work you turn in must be your own.

The online homework will be computer scored as a total number of points you earned out of total possible. It is due on the dates listed and must be completed by these dates. Late homework cannot be made up.

The online quizzes will be computer scored as a total number of points you earned out of total possible. It is due on the dates listed and must be completed by these dates. Late Quizzes cannot be made up.

Mathematics Style Sheet for Hand-in-Homework

·  Use 8.5 x 11 lined notebook paper for exercises and graph paper for graphs. Spiral notebook pages with torn edges unacceptable.

·  Write on the one side of the paper in one or two columns only and staple them together in order in the upper left corner.

·  On the first page in the upper right hand corner, write the following heading: your first & last name, math course, and the HIH assignment number & sections (refer to the diagram below).

·  Justify and show the means by which you arrive at your answers using equations, pictures, calculations, geometry, algebra steps, and/or technology. You will not receive full credit if your answer is not supported by work that is legible and organized.

·  Answer every part of the question … credit will be assigned for everything you are asked to do.

·  Place a box around your final answer. It won’t be graded if you do not do this!

·  Where appropriate, write your answers in complete sentences with units attached to the numerical results.

·  Basic idea is that I want your answers and their presentation in a professional and easily understandable format … make this your clearest and best work! Points will be deducted for disorganized and sloppy work.
