B.  Based on your Grammar Awareness Sheet, what are your three top areas for errors in your writing? (cl, pl, s-v, vt, vf….)

1.  / 2.  / 3.

!!!Now, look for these 3 types of errors in your first draft of your lab report. Mark the line (ü) where you think there might be a mistake. Your job is to fix them!

C.  Verbs- find all of your verbs. Highlight or underline them. Now check for:

1.  Verb tense-do you have the correct tense/time frame (past, present, future)?

  1. Are you consistent in using a verb tense in a paragraph?
  2. If you shift tenses, do you “signal” the reader? Is a shift in time appropriate?

2.  Correct verb form-

  1. Did you form the tense correctly?
  2. Did you use active or passive correctly? (form, if passive, verb that is transitive, appropriate?)
  3. If it is a gerund or infinitive, does it follow a main verb, a noun, or a preposition? (It can’t be the main verb of the clause.)

Note: marshmallow is not capitalized unless it is at the beginning of a sentence or part of the title.

D.  Format-

  1. Have you used the correct format for the report (see the instructions)?
  2. Does your report meet the minimum word limit (300 words)?
  3. Did you use at least 6 of the suggested verbs? Did you underline them?

II.  Revision – you may do these in any order:

Revise your lab report based on your analysis and editing. Correct the grammar errors AND if possible, develop the writing through sentence variety, idea connectors, and more detail. And information and/or take it away. Try to make it a better piece of writing.

BEFORE you hand in your revised draft along with this first draft, score your essay by using the assessment scoring form given to you.

Write a Reflection (please write at least 5 sentences and/or ideas):

How do you think you can improve your writing? Be specific. Is it basic grammar errors, such as sentence structure and verb form/tenses? Is it a need for more vocabulary? Do you need to work on developing your sentence variety in order to better connect your ideas? Do you need to develop your ability to more clearly and with more detail express your ideas? How?

*Include this chart and your reflection (you may write your reflection on a separate piece of paper or on the back side of the scoring assessment chart) in your portfolio.
