CLASS TITLE:FIRE COLLEGE ACADEMIC INSTRUCTOR

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is work teaching baccalaureate-level classes in a college-centered program of study for management in fire/rescue and emergency service.

  • Develop, plan, organize and instruct bachelor degree-level courses and advise students in academic matters.
  • Develop and implement effective procedures for evaluation of student learning.
  • Develop programs for delivery via distance learning models.
  • Develop programs using multi-media and interactive components.
  • Conduct research on related topics and publish results.
  • Evaluate external funding sources and prepare documentation for funding applications.
  • Represent the Bureau on appropriate curriculum and related committees.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Bureau Chief.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of current practices in college-level course delivery.
  • Knowledge of distance education concepts.
  • Knowledge of grant and contract proposal writing.
  • Ability to develop and implement procedures for evaluation of student learning.
  • Ability to teach diverse groups of students.
  • Ability to use multi-media and computer programs in a educational setting.
  • Ability to conduct research and publish results in related topics.
  • Ability to develop curriculum and prepare teaching materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in management of fire services, fire safety and protection administration, management, public administration, or other disciplines related to fire/rescue or emergency service organizational management, and four years of experience in staff development, educational or training capacity, and two years of experience in the delivery of emergency services, such as fire, rescue, or emergency medical.
  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in management of fire services, fire safety and protection administration, management, public administration, or other disciplines related to fire/rescue or emergency service organizational management can substitute for one year of the required experience.
