January 2015 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers
Important Notice
During the next few weeks there will be some significant changes to our entrance arrangements as a result of the building work. A trench has to be dug from the front of school and across the playground to the new building. The trench will carry services to the new building. This will mean that the gate at the side of the kitchen into the playground will be closed for 2 weeks.
The work will begin on Monday 2nd February and is scheduled to be completed by Monday 23rd February (the day we return from the half-term break).
These arrangements will be under constant review and may well have to change again at very short notice. We will inform you of any changes by letter and through our twitter account. Staff will also be on duty every day.
Next Tuesday you will receive a letter detailing the revised entrance and exit arrangements. This letter will also be on the school website. Please look out for it!
Stranger Danger
There have been a number of reports of children being approached by strangers in the Stockport area just recently. We have reminded the children to be extra vigilant and to tell an adult if they have been approached by someone they do not know or are unsure of.

First Aid Week
Last week the children took part in First Aid activities. These were delivered by the charity St. John Ambulance. The children thoroughly enjoyed the basic life saving activities and were able to demonstrate what they should do in an emergency. 27 parents also attended an enjoyable and informative afternoon session.

Road Safety Week
Next week there will be a series of Road Safety activities in school.
The children in the Foundation Stage have already used ‘Street Feet’ resources, the children in Year 2 will be taking part in ‘Step Outside’, Year 4 in ‘Headsmart’, Year 5 in the ‘Crashed Vehicle Project’ and Year 6 in both ‘Speedwatch’ and ‘Operation Eagle Eye’.
All these activities are designed to help children understand road use patterns, to think about their responsibilities as road users and how to keep themselves safe when crossing roads and riding bikes.
Internet Safety - Internet Safety Day - Tuesday 10th February
Tuesday 10th February is ‘Safer Internet Day’. The theme of Safer Internet Day this year is ‘Let’s create a better internet together’. On this day all the children will complete a range of activities to remind them how to use the internet safely. There will also be a workshop in the morning for parents who wish to further ensure their children’s safety when using mobile devices to access the internet.

Emergency Contact Details – Medicines in School - Asthma
It is vital that you inform school of any changes to your contact details (especially your mobile phone number) as we often have difficulty contacting parents when a child is ill and needs to be collected or if there is a medical emergency.
We will ask you to check all the emergency contact details that we hold during the Parent Consultation in March.
If your child requires a prescribed medicine 4 times a day and a dose has to be administered at lunchtime then parents must complete a request form. Without this we will be unable to administer any medicines. These forms are available at the school office. The medicine must be in the original labelled bottle.
We have been advised that if your child requires a prescribed medicine 3 times a day then there is normally no need for them to be given that medicine at school. The medicine can be given before school, when the children return home and in the evening.
Even if your child has not been diagnosed with asthma but has been given an inhaler (for any reason) then please inform the school office as soon as possible.
End of 2nd Theme Class Presentations - Tuesday 3rd February
Next week sees the end of the children’s 2nd theme of the academic year. On Tuesday 3rd February between 9.00 and 9.30am you are all invited to visit your child’s class to view their books and displays on their 2nd theme. The visit will end with the children showing their class ‘Animoto’ presentation. Parents of children in the end of the week Nursery class will have an opportunity to visit their child’s class on Thursday 5th February between 9.00 and 9.30am.

Arts Award Explore
If your child is interested in craft activities (woodwork, model-making, pottery, costume design etc) or dance, drama and expressive arts then a fantastic FREE new club has opened up at Stockport Central Library. Attached to the newsletter are details of how to get more information or how to book a place on ‘Arts Award Explore’ course.
We know that the children love to get involved in out of school activities. The children often ask their friends can they go with them to their activities. Also attached to this newsletter are the contact details of some of the clubs and organisations that the children belong to which Mrs McHugh collected together after the INSPIRE assembly in November.
Special Achievement
Well done to Billy Walsh, Keira Horsfield, Luke Hardman and Luke Stearns who have all achieved 50 stars on their Cale Green Achievement Charts. They have visited ‘Simply Books’ to choose their book prizes and have received their GOLD merit badges in Family Assembly as a result of their wonderful efforts!
