Introduction
If your network only supportsUnicastanddoesnot support Mulitcast connections you will have to use a bridge to connect with others using Multicast. The Bridge Registry contains a list of bridges that you can connect to. The Access Grid Toolkit (AGTK) uses a peers file to find the list of available bridges. UK AGTK users should make sure they are using the peers file from ja.net to get the best performance. Also,as Argonne National Labs is no longer supporting AGTK, the bridge you have been using may no longer work.
1. From the ‘Tools’ menu select ‘Preferences’. Select the ‘Bridging’ link in the left hand menu.If you don’t see a link to then you will need to add it, see step 2 below. If you have the entry but it is below one or more other entries you will need to reorder the entries, goto step 3. /
2. To add the ja.net Bridge Registry click the ‘Add’ button on the right hand side and then enter the following URL:
Click ‘OK’. /
3. It is essential to add the ja.net Bridge Registry above the original accessgrid.org listing in order to benefit from the bridges on the core of the JANET network.
The entries are listed in the order that they are added. If there are entries above the ja.net entry you should make a note of them before using the ‘Edit’button to rename them in the correct order.
You can also ‘Remove’ any entries that you don’t need. /
4. These bridges will be used if you are using Unicast because your network does not support Multicast. If this is the case make sure that the
‘Always use unicast bridges instead of mulitcast’ box is ticked.
Make sure that you click ‘Save’ before leaving the page. /
5. To update the list of available bridges reopen the ‘Preferences’ window and click on ‘Bridging’. Then click ‘Purge the Bridge List’ this may take a few minutes. Then click ‘Find Additional Bridges’, this will use all the peer files you have specified a return a list of currently available bridges.
You should find AGSC, agtk1 and AGSC_Backup at the top of the list. /
