AIRPORT ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
August 10, 2009
Attendees: Tyler Setchell, Josh Shaw, Larry and Bea Hart, Lori Hefel, Joe Freed, Doug Burright,
Ken Stultz
- Minutes for May meeting were reviewed. A.J. Hefel approved minutes by email. Terry Duncan had approved the minutes verbally. Minutes approved.
- A question came up regarding the feasibility study and a statement from the consultants on the possibility of establishing a WAAS approach in the future at 3AU. This statement goes against the current study that states a WAAS approach is recommended for the airport.
Update: Follow-up from BWR.
The limiting factor I spoke of was the CL separation between the runway and taxiway at the previous airport meeting.Currently it stands at 200' and the taxiway project underway will move it to 240'. To obtaina WAAS approach with less than 3/4 mile minimums the separation needs to be 300', to go to less than 1/2 mile it needs to be at 400'. Either of those to separation standards will require the removal of aircraft parking on the apron and impact your T-hangar development. The airport was not set up to go to those separation standards. At Wellington (which has a WAAS approach) they have currently a 300' separation between the runway and taxiway but yet their approach minimums are not less than 1 mile. Maybe I mis-understood but Augusta can get a WAAS approach but cannot get one below 3/4 mile visibility.

- Fly-In 2009
On target for the upcoming fly-in, Tyler will depend on staff since he will be on leave at that time.
Wanda and Ela will be coordinating with the help from tenants and staff. The breakfast will be funded by donations from AAM, ARTDG, Aviation Fuel Depot and The Shop. Local businesses will donate door prizes as in past years. The flyer has changed and will be going out to tenants and other interested parties. Young Eagles will be giving rides again this year. Larry and Bea will be working with them to organize that.
- Airport Sign
Josh Shaw reported on the airport sign that will be placed at the corner of Highway 54 and Indianola. The blueprint calls for a 10 foot sign with a base of 12 feet. The structure will be similar to the entrance signs in Augusta. It was mentioned that it would be nice to have additional signage referencing the businesses on the airport.
- Projects
Projected completed list was passed out. Indianola Road should be treated by months end to help with the dust.
- Rules and Regs
Necessary changes have been made and the final copy will be voted at the city council meeting. Upon approval, Ela/Wanda will mail copies to all tenants with the monthly statements. Thanks to everyone who worked on this project.
- Other
The airport has several new faces; Craig Henry and Eric Ralston have joined our staff recently.
Tyler will be out of the office on family leave this fall. Josh will be filling in administratively in his absence. The staff has been briefed to ensure the airport will run smoothly in Tyler’s absence.
