THE JOHN GREEN GATOR GALLOP
Friday, September 26, 2014
The John Green PFC would like to welcome back the Gator Gallop! For those of you that participated last year, you will remember how much fun it was for the students and how successful it was for the school!!! We are hoping to raise more than we did last year! For those of you that are not familiar with this FUNdraiser – this is John Green’s primary fundraiser (aside from registration) for the year! It is an “elementary” age-appropriate event that involves the students and promotes physical fitness. The students can participate in the fundraising efforts by collecting flat donations from family, friends and neighbors (John Green does not promote going door to door – please only approach familiar faces for donations!). They can then participate in the physical fitness portion by walking or jogging laps around the track on the day of the event.
We realize that asking our families to donate money can be a sensitive subject, especially in these tough economic times, but we hope that you will recognize the importance of raising funds for John Green and look at it as a way for your student to reach out to others within your network of family and friends. The PFC plans to put some of the funds towards literacy programs within the classrooms, towards science and music programs. All donations made towards the Gator Gallop are 100% tax deductible!
On the day of the event, FRIDAY, September 26, 2014, the students will attend a 30 minute Gator Gallop session with the other students in their grade level (kindergarteners will run only with kindergarteners, 1st graders with 1st graders, and so forth). During this session, they will jog or walk as many laps around the track as possible. The laps that the students complete during the event will be tracked, and at the end of their session, their laps will be totaled. The students will then have 2 weeks to collect the donations from their sponsors, if they haven’t already done so. All donations need to be turned into their classroom no later thanWednesday, October 8, 2014!
To make this event fun for the students, a Gator Gallop Awards Ceremony will be held on a date to be determinedwhere we will recognize the top 3 boys and top 3 girls (per grade level) for the most laps run and the top 3 students (per grade level) with the most donations collected. In addition, the class (from each grade level) that raises the most money will each receive a pizza party! On top of all of that, the oneclass within kindergarten through 2nd grade and the one class within 3rd through 5th grade that raises the most money, school-wide, will receive a 6 foot long alligator to keep in their classroom, plus the bragging rights that go along with it! This alligator will be passed on to the winning class each year! Mr. Romagna has agreed again, for this year, that if the students as a whole are able to raise $47,000 or more; he willDress up in the Gator Costumer and dance on the roof. Our goal is to reach $100,000!!! So let’s get out there and raise some money!!! Every student that participates will receive a certificate of completion for participating!
On the day of the event, please send your child to school with a bottle of water that they will keep with them during the event. It is very important that they have water; especially if it is a hot day! For fun – being that Friday’s are our regularly scheduled spirit wear days – we are asking all of the students to come to the Gator Gallop showing their school spirit (i.e. - John Green shirt, painted faces, colored hair, etc.!)! Or…check with your teacher about creating a class spirit-wear theme for your students! The more festive – the better!!! The class that shows the most school spirit during the Gallop, as a whole, will receive a 36” stuffed alligator for their classroom!
Please Send Your Child to School on September 26 in Spirit Wear, Tennis Shoes, Sunscreen andwith a labeled Bottled Water!
We hope you are as enthused about the 8thAnnual Gator Gallop as we are, and that you will encourage your student to participate in this exciting event! Feel free to come watch the festivities during your child’s Gator Gallop session! If you are interested in helping out, please look for the volunteer sign-up email that will be arriving very soon!
