TRAINING COORDINATOR

Hiring Range:$3,981.00 per month, plus excellent benefits

Opening:There is one full-time (40 hours per week)opening with the Yakima County Department of Emergency Medical Services. The EMS Training Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, developing, implementing, and evaluating the initial and continuing EMS education programs of Yakima County. This recruitment could be used to fill jobs that occur within 90 days of the closing date of this posting.

Essential Job Functions:

Curriculum Development: Develops the on-going training & evaluation program for volunteer and lay emergency medical personnel and providers. Develops training materials, exams, and practical scenarios for on-going and initial Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training programs. Develops and maintains an up-to-date, and comprehensive Web site to enhance EMS education and foster open communication among EMS agencies and providers. Attends conferences and workshops looking for the latest in EMS education techniques and technology. Develops PowerPoint presentations for educational offerings. Video tapes guest speakers (i.e. physician, RN, and others), edits video, and uploads content to online training site. Maintains online training site.

Instructor Development: Provide on-going support for the EMS instructors and evaluators. Maintain communications with the EMS instructors and evaluators via phone, newsletters, e-mail, workshops and website. Provide innovative programs to actively recruit and maintain interest of our existing pool of instructors and evaluators. Develop and maintain active instructor evaluation programs that provides instructors and evaluators with immediate positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. Perform formal evaluations of EMS instructors on an annual basis.

Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: Position requires driving to training sites; care and alertness when training others in

physicalactivities; mobility, stooping, kneeling, crawling, crouching, reaching, standing, handling of objects,

grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Rated as Medium work with lifting up to 50

pounds.

Equipment Used: Computer and related software, copier, fax machine, automobile, rescue and EMS training equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of: (Upon entry)

Emergency Medical Services.

Public speaking techniques;

Group meeting facilitation;

Project planning methods and techniques;

Customer service and team building concepts;

Training models and techniques related to the field;

EMS certification requirements.

Experience & Training

Associates degree in Health Services, Paramedic Education ora related field and 4 years experience as an EMS provider with 2 years EMS training and supervisory experience, OR any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge skills and abilities to complete the job.

Required Qualifications:

Current WA State driver’s license

Current EMS credential at the EMT level (AEMT, EMT- Paramedic)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in video productionand use of computer software and peripheral equipment (projectors) and / programs such as Microsoft Office

Senior EMS Instructor

BLS for Healthcare Provider AHA Instructor

ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor, or PHTLS Instructor.

A minimum of 4 years experience in pre-hospital medical care (fire service or ambulance)

SPECIAL NOTE – IF SELECTED FOR AN INTERVIEW:

Applicants selected for an interview for the position of Yakima County Emergency Medical Services Training Coordinator will be asked to take a basic knowledge assessment examination, give a 15 minute presentation following the interview, and demonstrate instruction on a practical skill. The applicant will demonstrate their teaching style for the interview panel by instructing on a topic related to Emergency Medical Services. Applicants will be allowed to utilize written materials, PowerPoint presentations, and/or other educational materials that they have developed. Anything that is presented must be the sole work of the applicant or, if the work was done in collaboration with others, the applicant must be very specific and clear on the part that they were responsible for developing. Following the presentation the applicant will provide instruction on the placement of a common piece of rescue equipment. There will be 6 minutes allotted to complete this final task.
