Southampton’s Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service is set to be run by new providers, following a recent procurement process.

From December, the Society of St James will be working in partnership with Solent NHS Trust and No Limits to provide a restructured drug and alcohol recovery service in Southampton, having been selected by Southampton City Council following a tendering process.

The Society of St James support people in the community. We support people with specific needs including homelessness, drug and alcohol problems and mental health problems. We have vast experience of supporting people on their journey through addiction, having been delivering drug treatment services in Southampton since 2007. We have a strong focus on providing opportunities for all, including young people, substance misusers and people with disabilities. We are keen to support people through sport, education and employment.

Trevor Pickup, Chief Executive of the Society of St James said: “The Society has a long track record of working with people with substance misuse issues in the City, and we are looking forward to working with our new partners to continue to provide opportunities for people to address the issues they are facing.”

Delivered in partnership with Solent NHS Trust and No Limits, the new drug and alcohol recovery service will provide a life changing, personalised substance misuse recovery service for people living in Southampton. Experienced health professionals, working within the service, will fully support the needs of people with drug and alcohol problems, and will work with the individual to provide them with the best care.

Solent NHS Trust provide community and mental health services across Hampshire. The Trust currently provide drug and alcohol recovery services in the wider Hampshire community and in the City of Portsmouth, and are highly experienced in working with people with drug and alcohol problems.

Dawn Roberts, Operational Director of the Substance Misuse service said: “We are incredibly proud to be working with the Society of St James and No Limits to provide substance misuse services to the residents of Southampton. Our staff are incredibly passionate about the local community. Our aim is to ensure that every person using the service gets the advice and support they need. Drug and alcohol users are part of our community - the more we can support them to make positive changes, the more it will benefit the community in which they live.”

No Limits has been supporting Southampton young people, under the age of 26, for 21 years. They provide a range of drop-in, group and specialist services such as drug and alcohol support, counselling, relationship and sexual health advice, information for parents, advice for homeless people and much more.

A spokesperson from No Limits said: “We are very excited to be part of this new way of delivering substance misuse services. We believe it will offer young people the best chance of recovering from their involvement in substances and getting their lives back on track. Substance misuse is one of many issues that can affect young people’s lives and No Limits are able to support them whatever the issue.”

We are looking forward to a new way of working, with our partners, to ensure the continuation of services, the delivery of new services and to provide more opportunities for people to address the issues they are facing.
