SMART VEHICLE SYSTEM

SMART VEHICLE SYSTEM – GPS GSM BASED VEHICLE THEFT AND COLLISION DETECTION SYSTEM used to detect vehicle collision and to provide vehicle security and accident alarm functions that can be communicated using GSM and GPS technology in case of emergency.

This project is based on embedded technology. An embedded system is a combination of computer circuitry and software that is built into a product for purposes such as control, monitoring and communication without human intervention. Embedded systems are at the core of every modern electronic product, ranging from toys to medical equipment to aircraft control systems. Embedded systems span all aspects of modern life and there are many examples of their use. The uses of embedded systems are virtually limitless, because every day new products are introduced to the market that utilizes embedded system in novel ways

Typically, an embedded system is housed on a single microprocessor or microcontroller board with the programs stored in it. Microcontroller is more preferred to microprocessor because it contains all the features of a full computer including central processor, in-built clock circuitry, ROM, RAM, input and output ports with special features such as serial communication, analogue-to-digital conversion etc.

Project uses Microchip’s microcontroller IC named Peripheral Interface Controller (PIC) and Microchip’s ‘Integrated Development Environment’, MPLAB, to simulate and assemble the written code.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project equipped with PIC (Micro controller), GSM modem, GPS receiver, USART, SIM card, various Sensors, LCD, Smart Card (EEPROM) and power supply.

The project involves the implementation of a vehicle locking system. Once the lock is activated, any trespass to open the door or to move the vehicle to some distance will activates the vehicle alarm. The main advantage of the system is that it will send sms to the owner that vehicle is trespassed and the owner can control the vehicle by a single sms. Only a keyless entry to the vehicle is provided via smart card.

An accident alert system is also implemented in this project. A collision sensor is used to sense any impact has occurred. When the car crashes the system send the accident alert and the current position of the vehicle (using GPS) to a preprogrammed mobile number via GSM modem. We can change the number with the help of a keypad interface (optional).

Project also involves a digital dashboard which displays speed, distance traveled, mileage of last 100 kilometers, engine temperature and fuel level of the vehicle using 16x2 LCD.

GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) is globally accepted standard for digital cellular communications. GSM is a cellular network, which means that mobile phones connect to it by searching for cells in the immediate vicinity. Most GSM networks operate in the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz bands. The ubiquity of the GSM standard has been an advantage to both consumers (who benefit from the ability to roam and switch carriers without switching phones) and also to network operators (who can choose equipment from any of the many vendors implementing GSM). GSM also pioneered a low-cost alternative to voice calls, the Short message service (SMS).

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite based radio-navigation system. There are 24 GPS satellites orbiting the Earth and transmitting radio signals. GPS was created, and is controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for military purposes, but is available to civilian users worldwide free of charge. In the modern world where large and highly integrated communication systems exist, tracking applications are gaining more importance. They are widely used in the fields of automotive, security, banking and military applications

FEATURES:

  • Highly reliable, cost effective and compact in size.
  • Simple to install and easy to maintain.
  • High performance Hooter with compact size.
  • Sensors are attached to the system itself, to prevent breaking.
  • Hooter turns ON automatically either when anyone of the door is opened or the vehicle moved
  • Equipped with back-up battery, the system works when mains fail.
  • On-screen LCD for speed, distance covered, fuel level, engine temperature and mileage.
  • GSM and GPS technology incorporated for accident alert.
  • Deactivation of vehicle lock is done by inserting valid smart card into a particular slot.
  • System reminds user to activate lock and to remove the smart card if he/she forgets to do so.
