Frequently asked Questions about the DEA device
Because of who this award represents it is not as easy to receive compared to others. It’s also significant because of the importance of what it represents…your efforts to spread a healthy drug free in your community. This is not something that’s done haphazardly or by winging it.
- How long do the presentations have to be?
- They should be about a 20 minute classroom type presentation, where you would need to develop a lesson plan.
- Can two instructors work together to give the class?
- They can if they both talk for about 20 minutes each.
- What if I’m working an informational booth at the mall?
- Informational booths, skits, etc., do not count as a classroom type presentation.
- Can I give a presentation at my family reunion?
- No, presentations must be made to an audience outside of family or Young Marines.
- Who should verify my presentations?
- Verifiers should be the teacher or adult in charge of the group you are presenting to. They should not be a staff member or a parent. Remember that if you use a teacher, please get their legible email address. They rarely answer phones. Contacting teachers over their summer break often entails delays. Keep that in mind for scheduling.
- How long does it take a DEA device application to be processed and awarded?
- As I also wear the hat of a Deputy Director, I travel frequently and do not bring the dea devices or certificates with me. Depending on my schedule and the length of time it takes to contact the verifiers, allow a month or more for processing of dea device applications. If that time goes by, the UC is free to contact me for an update.
- Who can submit my DEA Device application?
- All applications must be sent in either by the Unit Commander or the Executive Officer. Packets sent in by parents or Young Marines will not be accepted.
- Can my unit commander just send it to you, and then if you approve it, then he’ll sign it?
- No, all applications MUST BE COMPLETE. Incomplete submissions will not be processed.
- Do I send the application to Headquarters?
- No, all applications must be emailed to ddr@youngmarinesor snail-mailed to Joe Lusignan, 904 South Vancouver Street, Kennewick, WA 99336.
- What blanks do I need to fill in on the form?
- All of them, and do it legibly so I can read it. This in an important award…be complete, be accurate…and be proud when you earn it.
- When I send it, how do I make it stand out so that you recognize it easily?
- On the subject line of the email put, “DEA device and the name of the Young Marine.”
- For example: DEA Device—YM GySgt Steve Rogers.
- Do not send me a file with no text in the message of the email explaining what the file is. I will not download the file.
