1.4PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Specifier note: Higher test results may be achieved using high performance options and/or smaller sizes. Specific testing is dependent upon size and options. For further information contact your Weather Shield territory manager.

A. Design and Performance Requirements:

1. Telescoping sliding patio door units shall comply with ANSI/AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S. 2-97:

2. Air infiltration shall not exceed 0.30 cfm/ft2 (0.142 L/s•m2) when tested according to ASTM E283.

  2. SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES

A. Shop drawings: submit shop drawings according to Section 0133 23–Shop Drawings, Product Data and Samples.

B.Product data: submit manufacturer's product catalog data and installation guides.

C.Samples: submit samples including the following:

1. Corner cutaway: submit corner cutaway, including glazing system, quality of construction and specified exterior/interior finishes.

2.Exterior: submit color samples of exterior color finishes.

3.Hardware: submit samples indicating typical hardware finishes.

  1. Quality control reporting: submit manufacturer’s test results reported by independent laboratory indicating compliance with specified performance and design requirements, as listed in 1.4 Performance Requirements, according to Section 01 33 26 – Source Quality Control Reporting.

1.6QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Single Source Responsibility: Except for hardware mechanisms, aluminum extrusions, aluminum and fiberglass sill and most weather stripping, the door manufacturer is responsible for fabrication of all components and materials including treatment of wood with acceptable wood preservatives, millwork of door panel and frame members, assembly of insulating glass and manufacture of all panels and frames.

1.7PRODUCT DELIVERY REQUIREMENTS

A. Comply with the product delivery requirements specified in Section 0165 00 - Product Delivery Requirements.

1.8PRODUCT STORAGE AND HANDLING REQUIREMENTS

  1. Comply with the requirements for storage and handling of products as specified in Section 01 66 00 – Product Storage and Handling Requirements.
  1. Store doors in a dry location, off the ground, under cover, protected from weather and construction activities.

1.9WARRANTIES

A. Workmanship and materials: 20-year limited warranty.

B. Insulating glass: 20-year limited warranty.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURED UNITS

2.2 ALUMINUM CLAD EXTERIOR/WOOD INTERIOR TELESCOPINGSLIDING PATIO DOOR MATERIALS

A.Frame:

  1. Exterior frame members milled from pine, kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-12% at the time of fabrication and treated with a water-repellent preservative. Frame corners shall be rabbetted, butted, chemically and mechanically fastened. The frame includes solid one-piece head and side jambsmechanically fastened together, with applied inside stops. The head jamb and side jamb parting stops shall be press-fit into jambs and secured with screws.
  2. Frame is clad with .063” [1.6mm] thick extruded aluminum, with an integral extruded nailingfin. Top corners shall be mitered, include internal aluminum corner keys, chemically and mechanically fastened together.
  3. Interior frame materials to be milled from [pine (standard)] [oak] [cherry] [maple] [mahogany] [American fir] [character alder], kiln dried to a moisture content of 6-12% at the time of fabrication and treated with a water-repellent preservative.
  4. One-piece sill [extruded matte bronze finished anodizedaluminum (standard)] [gray pultrudedfiberglass]. Sill height of 2-5/16” [59mm].
  5. Side jamb thickness 1-1/8” [29mm]; head jamb thickness 1-1/8” [29mm].
  6. Frame shall have standard jamb depth of 6-9/16” [167mm].
  7. Option: frame provided with jamb extensions up to and including 12” [305mm]overall jamb depth[factory applied (standard)] [shipped loose]. Jamb extensions match interior frame finish.

B.Door Panel:

  1. Panel shall be composed of two materials, extruded aluminum exterior stiles and top rail of .050” [1.3mm] minimum thickness and bottom rail of .080” [2mm] minimum thickness, chemically and mechanically bonded to the interior wood substrate. Interior door panel corners shall be chemically and mechanically fastened with hardwood dowels.
  2. Interior door panel materials shall be milled from [pine (standard)] [oak] [cherry] [maple] [mahogany] [American fir] [character alder],kilndried to a moisture content of 6-12% at the time of fabrication and treated with awater-repellent preservative.
  3. As viewed from exterior, top rail shall be 5”[127mm] high; bottom rail shall be 7-1/2” [191mm] high; stiles shall be 5-1/4” [133mm] wide.
  4. Panel shall be 1-3/4” [44mm] thick.
  5. Available in two, three, four and six-panel configurations.
  6. Option: [raised panel]

a. [One panel] [two panels] shall be two MDF core panels, an exterior and interior panel, glazed into door panel with flush glazing bead.

b.Raised panel doors shall include 5-3/16” [132mm] center rail.

c. Exterior raised panel shall be prefinished to match exterior door panel color.

d. Interior raised panel wood species to match interior door panel.

e. Raised panel thickness shall be minimum 1-7/16” [37mm].

C.Finish:

1.Exterior aluminum finish: low gloss, two-component acrylic polyurethane enamel; meets or exceeds AAMA 2603 requirements.   1. Insulated glass shall be sealed with an advanced warm-edge spacer system with integrated edge seal and foil laminate moisture vapor barrier [gray warm-edge (standard)] [bronze anodized aluminum].
  2. Glass shall be set against sealant at panel exterior to allow reglazing from the interior with woodglazing bead.

  2. Active door panels shall have two sets of 1-1/2” [38mm] tandem stainless steel rollers adjustable to ¼” [6mm].
  3. Interior and exterior handle shall be high-pressure die-cast zinc with two-point stainless steel locking system.

  1. Weather Stripping:
  2. Flexible beige leaf weather strip at head and side jamb wood inside stops on two-, three- and four-panel doors.
  3. Gray pile weather strip with center fin at head and side jamb tan vinyl parting stops, sill tracks and astragal on four- and six-panel doors.
  4. Bronze vinyl-wrapped, foam-filled leaf weather strip applied at sill against the exterior of interior door panel.
  5. Exterior and interior interlocks shall be aluminum, prefinished to match exterior door panel. Exterior interlock shall include gray pile weather strip; interior interlock shall include gray pile weather strip and beige vinyl bulb weather strip where exterior/interior interlocks meet. Option: light bronze anodized aluminum interlock.
  6. Gray, high-density yarn dust pads applied in active panel sill tracks.

G. Sliding Screen Doors (two-panel doors only):

1. Sliding screen consisting of .045” [1.1mm] thick formed aluminum frameswith baked- on acrylic coating, mitered frame corners and 18x16 [charcoal fiberglass (standard)] [black aluminum non-glare] mesh.

2. Adjustable ball-bearing stainless steel rollers at head and sill.

3. Frame finish: matches exterior door frame.

Optional accessories. Edit as required.

H. Retractable Screens (three-panel doors only):

1. Retractable screen shall consist of two aluminum cassette housings with baked-on acrylic coating and 18x14 pvc-coated, charcoal fiberglass screen cloth.

2.Retractable screens shall include a full-length magnetic latch.

3.Screen handle is white on white screen housing; black handle on all other screen housing finishes.

4.Retractable screen shall be shipped loose.

5.Screen housing finish: matches exterior frame/door panel.

I. Airspace Grilles:

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1INSTALLATION

A.Install doors according to manufacturer's instructions and reviewed shop drawings to ensure proper installation and operation.

B.Install door unit plumb, level and square with no distortion of frame members.

  1. Fill perimeter frame to wall opening cavity with batt insulation. Do not use expansive foam insulation.
  1. Apply approved sealant in accordance with Section 0790 00 - Joint Protection.

3.2ADJUSTING AND CLEANING

A.Adjust operating panel and hardware to provide tight fit at contact points and at the weather stripping for smooth operation.

B.Remove excess sealant materials and visible labels from glass. Clean glass surfaces promptly after installation.

C.Initiate and maintain all protection and other precautions required to ensure doors are in acceptable condition at time of substantial completion.
