TIME TO THINK OF YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL PLACE: If your child is starting school in 2014 it will soon be time to apply for a space. Information and application forms will be available from the 1st September 2013. Please remember that we have an excellent Catholic Primary School in this parish called St. Augustine’s which is situated in Hardy Avenue and to which all parents of baptised Catholic children should endeavour to see that their child(ren) is sent to this school as a FIRST PRIORITY. This school provides the proper Catholic Ethos and atmosphere for your child to be brought up in as per your baptismal promise and where your child will be catechetically instructed in their faith.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION: As already stated, commencing from this year, the Catechesis instructional programme will take place both in the school and in the parish. Those attending St Augustine’s School will be instructed during term time in the school and those attending other non-Catholic schools will receive as usual their instruction in the parish. Both groups, together with their parents, will however come together on specific dates throughout the year. The course will commence in October with a welcome meeting and full details will be given. Application forms are available in the church porch (Y3 age group in September). Please fill it in and return it to the Parish Office. All those from St Augustine’s School wishing to enrol their children (Y3 age group in September) for this year’s First Holy Communion programme should collect an application form from the Parish Office (during the school summer holidays) complete it and return it as soon as possible. From the beginning of next term, parents of children at St Augustine’s School may collect a form from the school and return it to the school.
RCIA: Are you or someone in your family, (husband/wife) interested in becoming a Catholic? Do you have questions related to God and how you relate to him? You are invited to consider coming along to this year’s RCIA sessions which start in September and find the answers to your questions and to discover the value of the Catholic Faith. Application forms entitled “A Journey in Faith” are available in the porch.

DEFINITION OF OLD AGE: Everything hurts and what doesn’t hurt just doesn’t work anymore! The gleam in your eye is from the sun reflecting from your bifocals. You get out of breath making out a shopping list. Your children begin to look middle aged and start to go grey. You have learnt and know all the answers but no one asks you any questions anymore. You need glasses just to find your glasses. Your knee tends to buckle but your belt will not. You have too much room in the house and your back goes out more often than you do. Does any of this sound familiar?
