8 / CONTROL MEASURES
Additional to Good Chemical Practice
PERFORM COVERSLIP PREPARATION IN A FUME HOOD (Nitric acid), WHILST WEARING PROTECTIVE CLOTHING (lab coat, goggles)
WEAR GLOVES AT ALL TIMES WHEN FIXING AND STAINING CELLS, AS WELL AS WHEN PREPARING SLIDES (Exposure to paraformaldehyde, mowiol, antifade). LABEL TISSUE CULTURE PLATES AND WELLS AS CONTAINING PARAFORMALDEHYDE.
WEAR LAB COAT, GLOVES AND EYE PROTECTION WHILST PREPARING MOWIOL, ANTIFADE, PARAFORMALDEHYDE, AND PHALLOIDIN
APPROPRIATELY LABEL WATER BATHS WHILST INCUBATING MOWIOL/ANTIFADE, AND PARAFORMALDEHYDE FOR DISSOLVING.
ALIQUOT PREPARED SOLUTIONS OF 4% PARAFORMALDEYDE INTO 10ml, MOWIOL /ANTIFADE INTO 20ml AND PHALLOIDIN INTO 150ml TO PREVENT DEGRADATION AND TO MINIMIZE THE LEVEL OF EXPOSURE. LABEL TUBES CLEARLY WITH THEIR CONTENTS.
DISSOLVE PHALLOIDIN IN METHANOL IN A FUME HOOD
SOLVENTS KEPT IN A SEALED GLASS BOTTLE IN A FIREPROOF, LOCKED CABINET AWAY FROM SOURCES OF IGNITION
ACIDS STORED AT ROOM TEMPERATURE IN SEALED BOTTLES IN A CLEARLY LABELLED CABINET
PICRIC ACID: PROTECT FROM SOURCES OF IGINITION. DO NOT ALLOW TO DRY OUT.
