“Sonata for Harp and Bicycle”
Several characters were described in “Sonata for Harp and Bicycle.” For this assignment, you are going to create your own “twist” to the story by completing one of the two projects described below.
Create a “MEMO” from being the head of security!
At Moreton World where Jason and Miss Golden work, communication is provided to all employees through the use of a loudspeaker. Today, the use of loudspeakers is uncommon and most companies use e-mailing or paper memos to all staff members.
- For this assignment, you are to create an email message or paper memo to all employees that states how and why they need to exit the Grimes Buildings by five o’clock p.m. sharp.
- The message must be at least one paragraph in length as it will need to be detailed enough to explain the reasons behind this policy for all employees. This is especially helpful to all new employees.
- You will create a rough draft of your email/memo first and have it checked by a teacher and peer for further suggestions. Then, once all revisions are made, you will create a final, typed copy of the memo. It must be typed double-space, 12 point Times New Roman font.
- We will discuss proper email and memo formatting in class prior to starting the rough draft portion of your assignment.
Create a “Dialogue”
- In class, we will review how to create a dialogue between characters in a story. This will help you create your rough draft after you have some ideas in mind for this assignment.
- Heron and Miss Bell were finally reunited after a long separation. Think about how this reunion would have went---what would they have said to one another? How would they have acted/felt at this reunion? What specific words would they use to show their feelings after such a long time apart? This is all part of the dialogue that you will create for this assignment.
- You will create a rough draft of your dialogue and have it checked by a teacher and a peer for further suggestions. Then, once all revisions are made, you will create a final, typed copy of the dialogue and use quotation marks as well when typing. It must be typed double-space, 12 point Times New Roman font.
