Overview
Nearly 10 million children die before the age of five each year and nearly all the deaths – 99% - occur in developing countries. Save the Children (SCUK) has ambitious plans, we are committed to doubling income and quadrupling our impact for children over ten years.
This is a key role in the Finance & Business Support Team, it is a post designed to support the ambitions of the whole organisation in building & securing longer-term funding streams, growing the active supporter base and increasing the number of hand-raisers.
Job Purpose
The main purpose of this role is to deliver selections and extracts in support of direct marketing and other activityfrom SCUK’s supporter database, CARE. You will alsowrite and deliver high quality Cognos8 reports that are meaningful and insightful to the audience. You will be part of a dedicated team that ensures all the data that drives our income streams is selected to schedule and with total accuracy. You will also, as required, support the ImportIntegrity team to deliver ad hoc importsbe fully engaged in the drive to improvedata integrity.
Key Accountabilities
- Managing the process of selections and extracts in support of all communication activity
- Receiving and interpreting data extract briefs from colleagues managing the campaigns. Ensuring that:
- Campaign managers receive the quantity of data expected, output in the format their suppliers need and transferred to suppliers as agreed.
- You deliver the work to schedule
- Problems or opportunities are communicated before the final selection is made
- There is a systematic and planned approach to managing every selection and extract
- Advising campaign managers on how their selections could be improved or changed to better meet their needs. Including offering advice on the most effective way of structuring and segmenting campaigns, including test cells
- Developing reports in Cognos that will allow meaningful, accurate and timely performance reporting at Directorate, Leadership and Budget Holder level
- Agreeing appropriate, insightful KPI measures with managers and put systems in place to track performance
- Authoring reports for Voluntary Fundraising and building the capacity within the department to use Cognos8 by providing training and support
- Contributing to the development of the Data Warehouse
- Collating and reporting daily on Emergency voluntary income through the first few weeks of an emergency
- Meeting set targets to ensure visibility to the teams within Fundraising of the performance/status of extracts
- Supporting the development of robust processes that drive improvements in data integrity ensuring improved reliability of the data held on CARE
- Supporting the workto identify improvements to processes that exploit opportunities for simplification and automation, reducing the need for manual intervention as much as possible
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws, e.g. correct capture of Gift Aid Declarations, true & proper capture of Data Protection preferences
- Working with key suppliers ensuring they offer a secure method to transfer data
- Supporting the development of the CARE database to meet the continually evolving needs of the user, including the testing of any database upgrades
- Running, as required, imports onto the CARE database following predefined processes
- Managing your own work, balancing routine tasks with more complex projects so that both achieve their goals
- Rigorously deliver complex, detailed work with no mistakes
Person Specification
- Excellent knowledge of relational databases. Knowledge of the CARE database would be an advantage
- Proven expertise in interpreting complex selection briefs, writing advanced scripts to identify records according to certain criteria and extracting the required fields
- Thorough attention to detail, ensuring complete accuracy, even when under pressure
- Experience and skill at managing, developing and communicating data protocols, file transfer arrangements and data integrity
- Excellent and proven communicator with the confidence to explain technical issues in a simple and engaging manner to a wide range of audiences, through a variety of means
- Knowledgeof importing large datasets
- Strong problem solver, able to deliver innovative and effective solutions
- Resourceful, flexible with the ability to prioritise heavy workloads to meet tight deadlines
- Skilful at managing own time, especially balancing routine work with more complex projects to ensure everything is completed to schedule with total accuracy
- An outstanding eye for detail and thoroughness, even when under pressure
- Excellent IT skills, particularly Excel and Access
- Experience in using Cognos Query Studio & Report Writer or a similar reporting package
- Strong numeric and verbal reasoning skills
