ARMY ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT GROUPS 2013/14

GENERAL

1. Introduction. The Army Athletics Association with support from Brunel and BathUniversitiesis offering the opportunity for high quality technical development of Army personnel who intend competing in athletics in 2014 through two Army Athletics Development Groups. Groups will meet every two weeks at Bath and BrunelUniversitieson Wednesdays from 13 Nov 13. We will receive support from UK Athletics coaches including Mr Ian Grant (Brunel) and Mr James Hillier (Bath). The sessions are intended to be progressive and therefore it is essential for athletes to attend as many of the sessions as possible. The emphasis will be on technical development rather than conditioning.

2. Aim. The aim of this letter is to publicise how athletes are to register with AADG (Brunel) and AADG (Bath).

3. Registration and Assessment. Registrationusing the form at Annex Ais open to any athlete with aspirations to represent the Army in 2013 in either individual track and field or combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon) or both. The objectives of the Registration and Assessment Day are to:

  • Confirm registration of athletes for one or bothAADGs for 2013/14.
  • Provide an initial coaching assessment
  • Establish goals.
  • Confirm the dates and likely content for future coaching sessions. Proposed dates are (subject to change):

4.Format. The planned format for each session wasas follows:

amTravel under individual arrangements.

1320-1400Arrive, introductions, warm up.

1400-1600Coaching Session.

1600- Wash up, look forward, disperse.

5.Costs. The AAA will be covering the costs for the coaching of the sessions, however athletes will be expected to pay for the use of the track facilities; this will be no more than £4.00 per session.

ADMINISTRATION

6.Return. Athletes are requested to submit a return using the form at Annex A by 05Nov 13 by e-mail.

7.Travel. Units are kindly requested to support travel from unit funds as this is not competitive sport.
