Hamilton Island Art Retreat Itinerary

Day One: Photography & Drawing theme – ‘FROND’

EVENTS

Day 1

8.00am

/ Arrive promptly at Sydney domestic airport Terminal 2 (Virgin Airways departures) and meet Mrs Symonds. Please allow for traffic!
Students receive their Art Kits for the trip.

9.55.am

/ Virgin flight VA1281 departs Sydney.
11.25pm / Virgin flight VA1281 arrives in Hamilton Island.
11.45pm / Transfer to take group from the airport to Reef View Hotel
12.30pm / Lunch at The Pool Terrace (at students own expense). Students enjoy the island atmosphere.
2.30pm / Students settle into their rooms.
3.30pm / Students walk across to Catseye Beach and Hamilton Island Beach Club to orientate themselves on the Island. Students start their Photographic Portfolio of the surrounding vistas.
‘ART IN MOTION’ – Take a free bus trip to orientate yourself around the island. Get on the Orange or Purple Line Bus. Catch bus from outside the Reef view Hotel. (see map in art kit) 40 min loop. Photograph and sketch on route.
6.30pm / Meet for dinner at Sails – Steak and Seafood Restaurant – Catseye Beach near the pool
9.00pm / In rooms at hotel. Students to download the Hamilton Island App for up to date info and to locate closest bus stops for the trip. Chillaxing and bed.

Day Two:Photography & Drawing theme – ‘MAST’

Day 2

7.30am

/ Breakfast – Meet at The Pool Terrace Restaurant – The Reef View Hotel

8.30am

/ Beach Club opens – Optional to book in watersports for the afternoon and other days.

9.30am

/ DRAWING WORKSHOP – ‘TROPICAL DISCOVERY’ – Walk to Harbourside and meet at the benches opposite The Bakery - ready for sketching at the Marina.

1.00pm

/ Lunch (at students own expense). Either Harbourside or Catseye Beach.

3.00pm

/ DRAWING WORKSHOP - ‘ISLAND LINES’- Meet at ‘One Tree Hill’ – Orange Line Bus to Stop 24.

4.30pm

/ Head back to hotel – free time

6.30pm

/ Dinner - Meet at Pool Terrace Restaurant – Reef View Hotel

9pm

/ In rooms – chillaxing, movies and bed.

Day Three: Photography & Drawing theme – ‘SHADOW’

Day 3

6.00am

/ PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOP - ‘FRAMING THE LANDSCAPE’ – Meet at the Beach Club on Catseye Beach for a beach walk and morning photographic session.

7.30am

/ Breakfast – Meet at Sails Restaurant

10.00am

/ MIXED MEDIA & WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP –‘MICRO & MACRO’ –. Meet at large white marquee at the eastern end of Catseye Beach.

12.00pm

/ Lunch (at students own expense). Either Harbourside or Catseye beach.

2.00pm

/ ART GALLERY WORKSHOP – Meet at Hamilton Island Art Gallery at Harbourside. Students will work with artist in residence – Jane Kemp. Jane’s paintings explore rich colour and sails in oil, acrylic and watercolour. No need to bring art kit

4.30pm

/ Head back to hotel. Free time – swimming and walking resort.

6.30pm

/ Dinner – Students may choose their own dining arrangements. (Dinner at students’ own expense). Students may like to look at one of the café/restaurants at Harbourside or Room Service at the Hotel.

9.00pm

/ In rooms – relax and bed.

Day Four: Photography & Drawing theme – ‘ARCHITECTURE’

Day 4

6.00am

/ ‘PASSAGE PEAK SUNRISE’ – Meet at Reef view hotel front steps for a hike up to the highest point on the island and morning photographic session. Approx 45mins each way. Bring water bottle. Last 200m challenging and steep.

7.30am

/ Breakfast – Meet at Pool Terrace Restaurant

10.00am

/ SCULPTURAL WORKSHOP – ‘ENVIRONMENTAL – ECO ART’. Meet at The Outrigger Function Centre – walk to the western end of Catseye Beach, past Cocochu Restaurant and the Beach Club and we will be under the white tents at the end. No need to bring art kit – just cameras.

12.00pm

/ Lunch (at students own expense). Enjoy Catseye Beach and watersports.

3.30pm

/ WATERCOLOUR WORKSHOP – ‘MARINE & ARCHITECTURAL EXPLORATIONS’ pencil, pen and watercolour – Meet at lawn near Mantaray Restaurant at Harbourside

5.00pm

/ Free time – enjoy the island – chillax.

6.30pm

/ Dinner – meet at Sails Restaurant
Artistic Awards Night at Dinner.

9.00pm

/ In rooms – relax and bed.

Day Five: Photography & Drawing theme – ‘PATTERN’

Day 5

7.30am

/ Breakfast – Meet at Pool Terrace Restaurant

9.00am

/ Pack Bags and check rooms

10.00pm

/ Check out – bags stored (unless late checkout – TBA)

/ Morning Tea/ Snack(at students own expense).Close to hotel.

/ Transfer to Airport
